Manila, PH – 12 March 2025 – Protecting one’s health is a priority for many Filipinos. After all, it is key to achieving their goals and living their best lives. An illness can not only derail plans but also impact one’s overall well-being and outlook on life.
This is especially true for Overseas Filipino Workers (OFWs). They move abroad to make a living and support their families; however, they must also cope with living far from home and adapting to new cultures and environments. Should they get sick, it can disrupt their work abroad or it can be a possible reason for them to be sent back abruptly, which can have significant consequences on their finances, their family’s goals such as building their own house or business, and ultimately, derail their dream of coming home for good.
“There is a lot at stake for OFWs if their health is compromised. Unfortunately, for many of them, they do not have healthcare coverage when they come home for vacation or when their employment contract ends,” Sun Life Philippines Client Segment Marketing Head Cary Casipit said. “This prompted Sun Life to explore possible solutions.”
The result is Sun Life OFW Health Protect, a life insurance and comprehensive health protection plan designed specifically for Overseas Filipinos.
Sun Life OFW Health Protect provides coverage throughout an OFW’s health journey – from prevention to diagnosis, to treatment and rehabilitation – up to age 100.
The prevention feature would enable OFWs to proactively maintain their health through an annual physical examination, specific vaccinations, or teleconsultations. The insured can avail one of these benefits starting on the 2nd policy year until the 6th policy year.
In case the insured is diagnosed with any of over 100 critical illnesses covered, Sun Life OFW Health Protect can help fund the treatment or other medical expenses through a lump sum cash benefit. The plan also comes with a booster benefit for specific cancer conditions, which provides additional cash benefits to help with medical expenses including hospitalization, follow-up care, and even home recovery.
Furthermore, as early as age 65, 5% of the policy’s face amount may be received the by insured in advance for eight consecutive years. This ensures that the OFW would have funds to enjoy upon their retirement, when they are finally home for good.
“As OFWs work hard to care for their families, Sun Life is here to care for them as well,” Casipit said. “It is our hope that with Sun Life OFW Health Protect, they can be in the best of health as they work hard to achieve their dreams and secure their future.”

The call for improved water management in the Philippines is getting its much-needed amplification as WATER PHILIPPINES rolls out its 7th edition from March 19 to 21, 2025 at the Ground Level of the SMX Convention Center Manila in Pasay City.
WATER PHILIPPINES, a biennial trade event focusing on water and wastewater management in the country, is showcasing over 400 exhibitor brands and products with an anticipated attendance of over 12,000 trade visitors who are participating in the expo and in over 50 high-level conferences, seminars, and workshops throughout the three-day event.
“WATER PHILIPPINES is supporting the Bagong Pilipinas government of President Ferdinand Marcos Jr, who has been calling for improved water management across the country,” said Datuk Ir. Abdul Kadir B. Mohd Din, FASc, advisor of ASIAWATER, Informa Markets, the organizer of WATER PHILIPPINES. “The event aims to contribute by showcasing the latest innovations in water filtration and wastewater treatment as well as the best practices for managing water resources.”
The National Water Resources Board has highlighted that approximately 11 million families in the Philippines currently face challenges in accessing clean water. This statistic, while concerning, also underscores an opportunity for collective action and improvement in water resource management. In 2020, there were around 26.39 million families in the Philippines, indicating that nearly half still encounter difficulties in securing this vital resource. The Philippines is an archipelago surrounded by rich water resources and experiences significant weather events, including typhoons that can lead to flooding. These extreme weather patterns, alongside rapid population growth, water pollution, and management challenges, have contributed to the ongoing water accessibility issues.
Despite these challenges, there is a growing recognition of the need for sustainable solutions. Efforts are underway to enhance water management practices and invest in infrastructure that supports cleaner water access for all.
“With the theme ‘Shaping the Future of Water Management,’ WATER PHILIPPINES 2025 serves as a platform for highlighting innovative solutions and sharing of knowledge and best practices that local water industry leaders and players can utilize and adopt,” Datuk Kadir adds.
The exhibition and conferences feature local and international leaders and are focused on international sanitation, water supply, industrial wastewater treatment, and purification practices and technologies among others.
Among the conference highlights are the Philippine Water Works Association (PWWA) Conference that underlines innovative, inclusive, and sustainable water solutions; the Regional Water Talks 2.0 by ASIAWATER that facilitates dialogs with industry experts from the region; Technology Seminars about sustainable treatment and utilization of water, used water, and sludge; PSSE (Philippine Society of Sanitary Engineers) Seminar focusing on sustainable water management; and the Luzon Conference hosted by the National Master Plumbers Association of the Philippines (NAMPAP).
The 7th edition of WATER PHILIPPINES will feature more than 400 exhibiting companies and brands including three international pavilions including from Germany, Singapore, and Taiwan. The event is held simultaneously as a co-located event with PhilEnergy 2025, which will be held on the 2nd level of the SMX Convention Center Manila from March 19 to 21, 2025.
PhilEnergy Expo is set from March 19 to 21 at the 2nd floor of SMX Convention Center Manila.
Pasay City, Philippines — Sustainable energy sources and related technologies are once again taking the centerstage as the comprehensive energy trade event in the Philippines opens its gates from March 19 to 21. PhilEnergy Expo 2025 is gathering local and international leaders, brands, organizations, and businesses from the energy and related industries (local and international) for the annual exposition and convention focusing on the revitalized energy sectors.
The annual PhilEnergy, still anchored on its thrust for ‘Shaping the Philippines’ Energy Sector for a Sustainable Future,’ is an effective platform for highlighting the existing and potential collaborative efforts that propel “the clean energy revolution towards a sustainable and net-zero future.” This year, the three-day show aims to continue fostering the development of innovative renewable or clean energy solutions and related technologies that could shape the country’s energy industry, particularly the production utilization of electricity.
“PhilEnergy Expo 2025 is set to continue being the right platform that paves the way for showcasing the latest innovations and technologies as well as for discussing the most pressing and significant issues and development that define today’s evolving energy sector,” says Rungphech Rose Chitanuwat, Country General Manager of Informa Markets Philippines, the organizer of the yearly PhilEnergy Expo.
The energy trade event features five significant energy profiles—renewable energy (RE), energy efficiency (EE), electric and power (E&P), electric vehicle (EV), and energy storage (ES). Each field aligns with the sustainable, continuously evolving, and green initiatives that the local energy sector is prioritizing in conjunction with the global energy commitments and targets.
The event is also endorsed by the Department of Energy, and supported by numerous energy related organizations in the Philippines and outside the country including Philippine Energy Efficiency Alliance Inc. (PE2), Society of Philippine Electrotechnical Constructors and Suppliers Inc.
(SPECS), Thailand Institute of Scientific and Technological Research (TISTR), Developers of Renewable Energy for AdvanceMent, Inc. (DREAM), Asia Pacific Urban Energy Association (APUEA), Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers, Inc. (IEEE Philippines Section), Philippine Society of Mechanical Engineers, Inc. (PSME), Energy Industries Council (EIC), Mechatronics and Robotics Society of the Philippines (MRSP), Electric Vehicle Association of the Philippines (EVAP), Philippine Energy Research and Policy Institute (PERPI), Center for Renewable Energy and Sustainable Technology (CREST), Center for Empowerment, iNnovation, and Training on Renewable Energy (centRE), and Philippine Energy Professionals International Inc. (PEPII).
For sustainable and clean energy
The Philippines continues its firm stand to transition to a greater reliance on renewable energy. In accordance with the Philippine Energy Plan 2023 to 2050 of the Department of Energy (DOE), clean energy would account for 35% of the country’s energy generation mix by the year 2030 and for more than 50% by the year 2040.
At the same time, there are noteworthy and significant growth and development in related energy sectors. Energy Efficiency (EE) technologies and practices are continuously gaining support as public and private sectors work together to utilize energy more efficiently. Electric and Power (E&P) projects continue to abound with the aim to augment scarcity and distribution issues especially in the countryside.
Electric Vehicles (EVs) are swiftly gaining traction as more vehicle users shift to electricity-powered cars, which are energy-efficient, emission-free, and now practically priced, thanks to the government’s support through relevant legislations and policies. As the EV sector grows, so does the Energy Storage (ES) sector as the need for more efficient batteries (for various purposes) continues to rise.
What to expect at PhilEnergy Expo 2025
At the forefront of PhilEnergy this year are companies, brands, and organizations that are showcasing state-of-the-art and latest energy technologies and solutions. The expo facilitates business and partnership opportunities as exhibitors and attendees interact in the venue.
The three-day trade show is also highlighting industry convergence as energy professionals, innovators, and policymakers meet for dialogs, networking, sharing of knowledge, and exploration of potential collaborations. The focus on a sustainable future of the industry is also being underlined, while educational sessions are facilitated through panel discussions, workshops, informative talks and free seminars happening throughout the three-day event.
Among the much-anticipated seminar and educational session topics are the Circular Economy in the Green Energy Sector, Local Energy Planning, Decentralized Energy Systems (Off-Grid and Mini-Grid Solutions), Ph Energy Transformation, Power and Energy Security Agenda, Technology for Power Quality Sustainability, and more. Check out the complete list and schedule of PhilEnergy Expo 2025 Conferences and Seminars at https://www.philenergyexpo.com/technical-seminars/.
PhilEnergy Expo 2025 is set from 10 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. on March 19 and 20 and from 10 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. on March 21 at the 2nd level of the SMX Convention Center Manila in Pasay City.
PhilEnergy Expo 2025 is also running simultaneously as a back-to-back event with Water Philippines Expo 2025, which is occupying the Ground Floor of SMX Convention Center Manila. Water Philippines covers water supply, sanitation, and wastewater management.
In line with Smart’s commitment to empower subscribers with amazing experiences that go beyond connectivity, select subscribers enjoyed some rare quality time getting to know Smart ambassadors Donny Pangilinan, Belle Mariano, and Maine Mendoza in a series of meet-and-greet sessions.
Through Smart’s Holideals promo, Donny and Belle treated fans like family last February 15 while Maine had an extended bonding session with her supporters last February 22.
Group date with DonBelle
For DonBelle fans who joined the Smart Holideals Meet-and-Greet promo, there was no better way to spend the love month than with the country’s most-sought after on-screen loveteam.
Ten lucky fans—who also participated in getting-to-know games moderated by Rammy Bitong— went all out to prepare personalized gifts for DonBelle and even sang Happy Birthday for Donny who celebrated his birthday last February 10.
The event also saw DonBelle interacting with each subscriber, taking time to truly talk to each of them about their own personal experiences, and even making video calls for their friends. The winners did not just have their photos with DonBelle taken but were also able to share their stories with the loveteam, who in turn reminisced about their career and personal journey through the years.
“We really enjoyed spending time with you guys. Thank you for coming out here. We know marami rin kayong agenda sa buhay or pinagdadaanan but you still showed up for us,” said Donny.
“Belle and I would not be here without you guys. We consider you guys family. We just hope we all could all continue to lift each other up and spread positivity. Thank you, guys. We love you so much. Thank you, Smart, for this opportunity,” he added.
For her part, Belle said, “It’s rare that we get to have this kind of interaction with you na talagang very intimate. You know so much about us so it’s really nice to have this opportunity for us to know more about you.”
She also echoed Donny’s sentiments by saying, “I agree with Donny na tayong lahat, marami tayong pinagdadaanan but despite all that, we have each other to lift each other up. We have different fan groups but it’s nice that we can create a community and grow together as a family and this event does just that. To our Smart family, thank you so much for doing this. We truly appreciate this!”
The supporters took time to do a group video about the event to collectively thank Smart: “We weren’t expecting this meet-and-greet to be this personal. Thank you so much to Smart!”
A trip down memory lane with Maine
On the other hand, Maine Mendoza immediately took off from her noontime show to surprise nine lucky Smart subscribers having lunch at a restaurant in Quezon City. The fans were in knee-deep conversation with P-Pop Daydream member Denise Silva, hosting the event and reminiscing about Maine’s colorful career.
Among them is 36-year-old Elvira Abad, who traveled all the way from Meycauayan, Bulacan to interact with her idol. Elvira has been a Smart subscriber since 2015. “Very relatable siya nung nag-start pa lang siya sa showbiz. As a fellow introvert, medyo naka-relate ako sa part na ‘yun,” Elvira shared.
Another lucky Smart subscriber for 21 years, 52-year-old Leonora Aquino from Navotas, said that like Maine, Smart makes her life easier, especially in her work at school. “As a teacher, ginagamit ko ‘yung PowerAll for my school presentations. Hindi ko na dinadala ang laptop ko; ini-screen mirror ko na lang siya kapag walang Wi-Fi sa school. Ginagamit ko ‘yung mobile data para magpanood ng educational YouTube videos sa klase,” Leonora shared.
Meanwhile, Mary Graze Oalog, a former OFW in Saudi Arabia said it was worth it going back home to meet Maine. “Actually, sumasali kami sa Smart promos dahil kay Maine. Nung nasa abroad ako, siya ‘yung stress reliever namin,” she recalled.
Maine, who is celebrating her 10th anniversary in the entertainment industry this year, also thanked the Smart subscribers for supporting her all this time.
“Ang dami nating firsts today! Ten years na kayong supporters ko at ang dami pa nating nalalaman about each other. Kasi hindi talaga natin ito nagagawa. It’s always fast meetings and encounters. Today, sobrang dami kong nalaman na stories na ngayon ko lang narinig so thank you for sharing, thank you for letting me know, and thank you for the experience,” said Maine.
