SM MALLS INTRODUCE E-WASTE COLLECTION PROGRAM IN BULACAN
With the exponential growth in use of electrical and electronic equipment, generation of e-waste and its management has emerged as a formidable challenge.
Global E-Waste Monitor in 2020 reported that the world generated about 53.6 million metric tons (Mt) of e-waste in 2019; a 21-percent jump from 44.4 Mt in 2014.
And by 2030, the global total is projected to swell and increase to 74.7 Mt. E-waste if not correctly disposed can release dangerous chemicals like lead, mercury, and lithium, which are not only toxic to the environment but also to humans.
Exposure to these chemicals can also lead to life-threatening complications such as poisoning, immune system disorders, and even cancer.
With this in mind, SM Malls in Bulacan are set to help the locals dispose their e-waste responsibly through the SM Electronic Waste Collection Program. By putting up designated e-waste collection drop boxes, SM Malls in Marilao, Baliwag, Pulilan, and San Jose Del Monte hope to raise public awareness on the need to practice and responsibly manage e-waste.
