Electronic avant-pop artist Space-Ta threw a listening party at Whitespace Manila on November 18, 2022 to celebrate the upcoming release of his full-length debut album, Flight of the White Rekusasu.

Incorporating genre-blurring soundscapes with intricate beats and retro-futurist production, Space-Ta’s 8-track record blasted through the speakers as the audience enjoyed free-flowing cocktails and drinks against a backdrop of minimalist, underground club scene.

DJ acts Baby Oliv and Red-i complemented the mood of the event with banger-after-banger jams that evoke after-hour rumination in a retro-futuristic set.

A voiceover that hints about the concept behind Space-Ta’s new album, was also played during one of the segments of the program. “In a world where the TIME COUNCIL has countlessly reformatted life as we know it, Space-Ta journeys back in time to explore extinct music genres and bring them back to the planet with the cinematic beauty that they once had,” introduced the VO. “An enigmatic figure in the 2032 music scene, he opposes norms, defends freedom restricted by the powers-that-be, and rediscovers himself as an artist poised to transform the world.”

Following the phone’s launch last month, HONOR just announced that the budget-friendly HONOR X6 is now available via Globe through its various postpaid plans.

The recent launch of the My City, My SM, My Music at SM City Marilao highlights the life and work of two Bulakeño National Artists – Francisca Reyes-Aquino for Dance and Ernani Cuenco for Music through an afternoon of live music, folk dances, and kundiman.

Apart from the performances, mall goers at the mall had a rare glimpse of the life and works of National Artist for Dance Francisca Reyes-Aquino and National Artist for Music Ernani Cuenco through the exhibit at the My Music house. Both of the National Artists’ insignias serve as the exhibit’s centerpiece. These were also complemented by awards, photos, folk dance costumes and dance instruments from the collection of the Reyes-Aquino Family, as well as original music notation, FAMAS awards and posters of films that Ernani Cuenco musically scored and wrote.

A joint project of SM, the Metropolitan Museum of Manila, the Filipino Heritage Festival, WCOPA, and the Philippine Star with support from the National Commission for Culture and the Arts (NCCA), the National Music for Young Artists (NAMCYA), and Tahanan Books, My City, My SM, My Music is a celebration of Philippine Performing Arts – music, dance, and theater. Actor Musician/Flutist Ernani ‘Jong’ Cuenco Jr. playing the original arrangement of his father’s iconic composition Gaano Ko Ikaw Kamahal.

 

The campaign aims to bring people and music together by showcasing indigenous, folk, classical, and contemporary artistry in a roadshow around the SM Supermalls. Advocating music for all, we are working with communities to mount performances, exhibits, and workshops in key cities around the Philippines.

Guests, including Granddaughters of National Artist for Dance Francisca Reyes Aquino, Ma. Lourdes Martinez, Melanie Martinez- Marquez, and Joyce Martinez Antolin, and great grandson Miguel Antonio Antolin and great granddaughter Bea Gabrielle Antolin as well as Ernani ‘Jong’ Cuenco Jr. and family, enjoyed the tribute video hosted by TV Host Rizza Diaz.

They were all warmly welcomed by SM executives led by Millie Dizon, SM City Marilao Mall Manager Engr. Emmanuel S. Gatmaitan and Assistant Mall Manager Engr. Janette C. Aguilera.

Francisca Reyes-Aquino or “Lola Kikay” was a dancer, choreographer, teacher, and researcher who braved the mountain trails and treacherous waters all over the Philippines to reach people and their dances. She is a recipient of the Republic of the Philippines Award of Merit and the Ramon Magsaysay Award. She was also designated as the first National Artist for Dance and best known as the ‘Mother of Philippine Folk Dance’.

Ernani Joson Cuenco or Maestro Cuenco is a Filipino composer, film scorer, musical director, music teacher and Philippine National Artist for Music. He wrote several notable songs and musical scorings for films during the 1960s. He is known for his romantic ballads like Bato sa Buhangin and Gaano Ko Ikaw Kamahal, which have become love anthems for generations of Filipinos.

My City, My SM, My Music is a take-off from the My City, My SM campaign which promotes tourism; My City, My SM, My Cuisine, which highlights family heirloom recipes in the different regions; and My City, My SM, My Crafts, which celebrates traditional arts and modern Philippine design. Most recently, My City, My SM, My Art was a celebration of Philippine visual arts – painting, sculpture, printmaking, photography, and filmmaking.

The My City, My SM, My Music event in Marilao is the third in the series after the grand launch at SM City North EDSA honoring National Artist for Music Ramon Pagayon Santos followed by SM City Olongapo Central featuring the classical music of Coke Bolipata. Its next stop will be at SM City Pampanga.

DITO partnered with the local government units of Boracay and Cebu to launch its “Level Up Ka DITO” program which aims to provide alternative sources of income to local entrepreneurs.



Through this program, DITO empowered over 50 sari-sari stores in Boracay and 60 retailers in Cebu by providing “Level Up Ka DITO” starter kits which consist of free sims, retailer sims with load, power banks, and other DITO merchandise to help kick start their business.

“The goal of the program is to equip the beneficiaries with the correct tools, the Level Up Ka DITO Starter Kits, to become empowered entrepreneurs and gain access to alternative sources of income with the help of DITO Telecommunity,” said DITO Chief Administrative Officer Atty. Adel Tamano.

Acting Municipal Mayor of the Municipality of Malay, Aklan expressed his gratitude for the program during the Boracay launch.

“It is refreshing to experience and to receive this level of support from DITO Telecommunity, a partner who has taken the needs of our constituents to heart in pushing for progress and better livelihood,” said Hon. Frolibar S. Bautista.

Meanwhile, in General Santos City, DITO also launched “TARA NA DITO sa Gensan!” at SM City Gensan in collaboration with SM Supermalls.

During the launch, DITO conducted on-ground efforts including the symbolic lighting-up ceremony, a DITO for the Squad Cup Mobile Legends (ML) Tournament, and Star Ka DITO Cosplay Showcase.



The ML tournament gathered gaming enthusiasts and players across Davao who got the chance to watch and experience the game while the cosplay activity showcased how talented Gensan cosplayers are as they recreated and relived various mobile legends characters wearing colorful costumes and fashionable accessories.

Aside from the festive activities, booths were also available wherein attendees had the chance to have an all-around experience of DITO products, services, and innovations. ​

2022 has been a stellar year for Filipino singer-songwriter/producer Ace Banzuelo with his emotional single “Muli” breaking through the mainstream pop consciousness two years after it was released—thanks to its relatable lyrics and vibey, electro-ballad sound. After trending significantly on TikTok, the song launched Banzuelo into the spotlight, unmovable at the top of the Spotify Philippines and YouTube Philippines Trending charts for an extended period of time.



Fast forward to November 2022: Banzuelo continues to build on the success of “Muli” with the release of “Kulang,” an unabashedly vulnerable track with trap, R&B, and bedroom pop influences. Decked in retro-futurist synthesizers and laid-back, hip-hop beats, “Kulang” finds the 22-year-old multi-hyphenate aimlessly writhing over heartbreak in his quiet, subdued time, wallowing in loss or lack of personal direction.


According to the Himala artist, “Kulang” examines a stage of grief where you find out that you have been wronged but still try to make things work. He goes on to say, “The story is inspired by a time in my life when I was questioning myself about where I went wrong, and where I lacked. Whatever I’d do, it was just the same thing all over again. You’re aware that you’re in this drama, and you keep coming back to it, but you just want it to stop.”

In true Banzuelo songwriting style, “Kulang” belongs to the crop of tunes that depict heartbreak, grief, and relationship fallout in their most vulnerable state, be it confessional or observational. “I’m here to talk about things most people are afraid to let out,” the young hitmaker adds. “I’m not often sad, it’s just the mood of my music right now, and I think the beat and production style speak for themselves.”

He also recorded, produced, performed, and engineered the entirety of “Kulang,” but what distinguishes it is Banzuelo’s effortless ability to wrap melancholy in incredibly catchy packaging. To make it special, he also adds a rap verse in the middle of the song. “I kind of collaborated with that side of me. Being a hip-hop head myself, I’ve always wanted to experiment with performing songs in a certain way. I’m not a rapper yet, but this is a much-welcomed reprieve from the usual.”
