Manila, 9 May 2024 – Recent data from Visa, a global leader in digital payments, reveals that Filipino concertgoers who travel overseas exhibit higher spending power both abroad and domestically compared to non-concertgoers. This trend was uncovered through analysis by Visa Consulting & Analytics (VCA), Visa’s payments advisory arm, using VisaNet data1.
The trend is fueled by the numerous popular acts that have performed in Southeast Asia recently, attracting many Filipinos to travel overseas specifically for these concerts. Prior research indicates that Filipino concertgoers are among the top five in the Asia Pacific region for overseas concert travel. There is a resurgence in travel, with the same research indicating 65% of surveyed Filipinos planning overseas leisure travel in the next 12 months. The top three intended destinations include Japan (38%), South Korea (29%), and Singapore (16%).
A Filipino concertgoer is defined for this study as someone who has bought concert tickets from April to December 2023, and traveled overseas for concerts between January and March 2024. These individuals spend significantly more than non-concertgoers – with a concertgoer typically spending 58% more than a non-concertgoer – during their travels, with shopping being their primary expenditure. Luxury retail, apparel and accessories, and department stores are the top market segments.
In the Philippines, concertgoers, known for their higher disposable income, have a history of outspending non-concertgoers. Their expenditure is predominantly focused in Metro Manila, particularly in the City of Makati, which is home to a significant number of these concert enthusiasts. Majority of their spending goes towards international brand apparel and accessories, luxury retail, and quick service restaurants. Often, they spend double the amount compared to those who do not attend concerts.
Concertgoers, being more digitally connected and having more disposable income, are also more likely to shop online. This includes booking flights, shopping via platforms, department store purchases, food delivery, and insurance in the Philippines.
Jeff Navarro, Country Manager for Visa Philippines, emphasizes the importance of understanding the consumer behavior of this affluent concertgoer group. He said: “Visa’s data-driven insights help businesses connect with concertgoers and many other targeted audiences through our trend analyses. We are committed to ensuring Visa is the best way for Filipinos to pay and be paid, whether they’re traveling overseas or shopping at home. Visa aims to create a more enjoyable, seamless, and secure shopping experience.”
Visual artists from Central Luzon as well as art enthusiasts from different parts of Bulacan gathered in a remarkable celebration of art with the recent opening of the 12th Pulilan Mandala Art Festival at SM in this town.
The event, which has been spearheaded by the JEFARCA Arts and Historical Society Inc. with the support of the Local Government of Pulilan, the Bulacan Provincial Government, and the National Commission for the Culture and the Arts (NCCA) in partnership with SM Center Pulilan, signals the culmination of Mandala Art Festival’s 12 remarkable years since its inception in 2012. To ignite the celebration in SM Center Pulilan, an art exhibit with the theme “Ang Ating Sining sa Nagbabagong Panahon” puts the spotlight on the exceptional creations of 95 visual artists from different parts of Central Luzon while paying homage to the late Mandala artists such as Reuben Cañete, Jose Alberto “Joey” Tañedo, Leonilo “Neil” Doloricon, Egai Talusan Fernandez, and Alexander L. Quizon.
Among the notable guests were National Artist for Literature Virgilio S. Almario, DOT Region III Director Dr. Richard G. Daenos, Bulacan PHACTO Head Dr. Eliseo Dela Cruz, together with Pulilan Mayor Maritz Ochoa-Montejo and SM AVP for Operations Ana Datu.
On this rare occasion, art lovers and enthusiasts also had the chance to immerse themselves in a series of art lectures held at the Mall Atrium, facilitated by multi-media visual artist Prof. Toym Imao, as well as NCCA Executive Director Dr. Eric Zerrudo and NCCA-NCVA Chairman Dr. Dennis Montera.
“We, at SM, are honored to be a part of the Mandala Art Festival’s historic culmination,” says AVP for Mall Operations Ana Datu. “Realizing the importance of art in the community, we are glad to partner with the incredible team behind the Mandala Art Festival in showcasing the work of these incredible artists while inspiring visitors to rediscover the world of art, its regeneration, and the impact it brings to society,” Datu added.
As shared by Pulilan Mandala Art Festival Director Andrew Alto De Guzman, part of the proceeds of the art exhibit will be dedicated to the publishing of a commemorative book entitled “Katuparan” that will serve as a testament to the 12 years of creativity, innovation, and community spirit that have defined the Mandala Art Festival. The art exhibit will run until May 28 at SM Center Pulilan.
The emotionally captivating track is penned by Paolo Benjamin and Miguel Benjamin, and co-produced by Indonesia’s Petra Sihombing
Multi-awarded Filipino band Ben&Ben invites listeners on a journey of self-introspection with the release of their new 2024 single “COMETS,” out today via Sony Music Entertainment.
“COMETS” is an emotional track that conveys the ephemeral nature of relationship fallouts and disconnections. While the song looks back at memories with mixed feelings of loss and pensiveness, the experience that it brings offers a bright promise of hope and acceptance, no matter the end result.
“Though mostly dwelling on that feeling of loss, the song ends with the hopeful realization of gratitude—being thankful for ever having experienced any of it at all,” Ben&Ben explains in a press statement.
According to Paolo Benjamin and Miguel Benjamin, the songwriters’ behind “COMETS,” the pop-rock tune was inspired by the many losses of people that they’ve encountered in different parts of their lives over the past four years: breakups, end of friendships, parting ways with professional relationships.
“With each loss comes a painful process of asking why the nature of life is as such,” reveals Ben&Ben. “The answer is hardly ever straightforward, but reveals itself over long periods of time. COMETS is an expression of that very journey, and hopes to help the listener through these realities in their lives too.”
“COMETS” has gone through several iterations since the band started jamming it together in the latter parts of 2021. The Filipino band admits that it’s one of the songs that they’ve spent the longest trying to fine tune and play around with, in terms of arrangement and song structure. Eventually, Ben&Ben found the right musical direction and vision for the song, pulling from their own experience of loss to settle on a version that they’re most comfortable working with.
The Sa Susunod Na Habang Buhay hitmakers eventually recruited Indonesian producer Petra Sihombing to be part of the project, adding final but pivotal touches to the track.
“He flew in to help us bring the song to the next level, with his own additions in both the arrangement and post production of the track,” the nine-piece collective recounts. “The band probably had about 90% of the song down, but it was Petra’s very weighty 10% that really helped make the song what it is now.”
A message to LIWANAG
The band hopes that LIWANAG, their fanbase, would resonate to the parting words of the song, particularly the lines, “though these nights are turning gray, still I am thankful for what’s passed I know there will come a day when I will finally understand.” For Ben&Ben, gratitude and hope can come without totally understanding the “whys” behind it all.
“We’re on the same journey of finding these answers ourselves — of why life is fleeting. And with that hope comes the strength and courage we need to keep going, to keep loving, and to keep on finding meaning in our experiences.”
Ben&Ben’s “COMETS” is out now on all digital music platforms worldwide via Sony Music Entertainment.

Fresh from a successful caravan yesterday that drew over hundreds of freelance delivery partners, delivery service provider foodpanda logistics announced a follow-up caravan today in Pasig where interested freelance delivery partners can sign up and onboard to the platform on the spot, and get a chance to receive bonuses and other perks.
Due to the big turnout from the first leg in Pasay, foodpanda logistics is having its second leg to give opportunities to more interested freelancers to become part of their delivery fleet.
Ron Sanders, foodpanda logistics Rider Experience Lead shared that this is a bid to provide more livelihood opportunities for those seeking flexible employment avenues while enhancing their delivery capabilities and enhance the overall customer experience.
“We’re opening our doors to welcome 2,000 new delivery partners to our Ka-panda fleet – whether you are a motorcycle rider, a biker, or a walker,” Sanders announced. “Our Ka-pandas come from diverse backgrounds—some work part-time, others freelance across multiple platforms, and many rely on foodpanda logistics as their primary source of income. So those who will be joining us can depend on a platform that will offer them a livelihood with freedom and flexibility.”
Rider Express Support at your service
Aside from the easier and faster onboarding of interested delivery partners, a Rider Support Express will be present to help existing Ka-pandas with concerns and questions.
Sanders explained, “The Rider Caravan is designed to make the process of becoming a Ka-panda easier and faster but we also dedicated a space for those who wish to discuss their concerns.”
The delivery service provider has also been moving around cities and different areas for the past year with their pandaPatrol: Hub on Wheels. “To date, we have visited more than hundreds of cities and provinces to connect with our Ka-pandas nationwide.”
Making stops at select gas stations, panda Patrol offers interactive games and activities as well as a support hub for delivery partners where they can personally meet foodpanda logistics representatives to raise any concerns on the spot. “We are always moving around cities and different areas to always be present around our Ka-pandas because nothing beats that connection and engagement to make them feel that we are here to assist them.”
Taking care of Ka-pandas
The newly onboarded delivery partners will undergo training sessions covering road safety and efficient delivery practices.
“It’s always great to welcome new additions to the family, but it’s equally important to prioritize the welfare of our existing delivery partners.”
Among the superb rewards and activities available to Ka-pandas is the Bamboo Rewards where they earn points for every successful delivery and exchange them for free merchandise. They have also partnered with insurance providers to ensure coverage throughout their delivery sessions, as well as discounts on health essentials like medicines to support the well-being of Ka-pandas.
“Once they have officially onboarded with us, they can start enjoying these perks and assistance. We believe in taking care of our Ka-pandas every step of the way,” added Sanders.
