For the fifth consecutive year, Sun Life of Canada (Philippines), Inc. was once again recognized by the Institute of Corporate Directors (ICD) for good corporate governance.
Sun Life was bestowed with a Two Golden Arrow Award, which is given to insurance companies and publicly listed companies that score 90 to 99 points in the ASEAN Corporate Governance Scorecard (ACGS). The assessment measures the performance of companies based on how they facilitate the rights and the equitable treatment of shareholders, how they relate to their different stakeholders, and how they ensure transparency and accountability through timely disclosure of material information. It also looks into how the board guides the company strategically, monitors the management, and ensures the board’s accountability to the company and the shareholders.

The FREE TO BE U campaign recently released The Positive Lifestyle, a series of powerful and inspiring videos designed to raise awareness about, foster empathy for, and help empower people living with HIV (PLHIV). The FREE TO BE U Campaign recognizes that a key component in the fight against HIV stigma is not just knowledge, but empathy. Through these videos, the campaign is dispelling misconceptions, promoting acceptance, and encouraging viewers to connect to PLHIV as they share their personal stories. Most importantly, once conversations around HIV are no longer stigmatized, people can freely access HIV services through tools. The videos are available on the campaign’s Facebook and Youtube accounts.

One of the videos features Drag Den Philippines Winner NAIA (@naiablack_ on IG) talking to Jabar Esmael, a PLHIV advocate, while having their make-up done. Jabar talks about his experience right after learning he was HIV-positive and what made him decide to get treatment. Another video shows how a person living with HIV can maintain a healthy lifestyle and adhere to treatment via proper nutrition in a fun, cooking show setting.
By developing these videos, FREE TO BE U seeks to promote acceptance and inclusivity, break stereotypes, and shift the narrative when it comes to people living with HIV. Each video provides unique perspectives on the daily lives of people living with HIV, revealing marginalized people whose voices need to be heard and whose days are filled with challenges, but also beauty and fun.
Teresita Marie Bagasao added, “This initiative not only shows the realities of people living with HIV, but it also promotes QuickRes.org, an online booking application for HIV services in the country. It is not enough that we normalize conversations about HIV. We also need to provide information about access points for free HIV services.”
QuickRes is an online booking application where anyone can easily book an appointment for HIV and sexual health services using their smartphone, tablet, or laptop. It is a global platform brought by the campaign here in the Philippines, with the country being the top user globally within a year.
The FREE TO BE U campaign was launched in 2022 by the Meeting Targets and Maintaining Epidemic Control (EpiC) project, in collaboration with the Department of Health (DOH) Healthy Pilipinas . EpiC is led by FHI 360 and funded by the U.S. President’s Emergency Plan for AIDS Relief (PEPFAR) and the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID).This partnership kicked off last February during the Festival of Love event. The campaign has also organized the QUILTS Awards — which honors health facilities and partner organizations that have provided exceptional care and treatment to people living with HIV— for the past two years.

Anchored in its commitment to help farmers attain food sufficiency, sustainable livelihood, entrepreneurial development, and market linkages, SM Foundation, in partnership with the local government units of Marilao, Baliwag, Pulilan, and San Jose Del Monte, the Department of Agriculture (DA), DSWD, TESDA, DOST, DTI, DOT, D’ Planners Training Center Inc., as well as SM Supermalls, recently launched the Kabalikat sa Kabuhayan Sustainable Agriculture Program in Bulacan.
With its vision to bring back hope by directly working with farmers, SM Foundation’s KSK will benefit a total of 100 beneficiaries from selected barangays in Marilao, Baliwag, Pulilan, and San Jose Del Monte. The trainees will undergo 14-week coaching conducted hand in hand by assigned trainers, government agencies, and SM Supermalls. The training will focus on several facets of farming, including land preparation, seedling, fertilizer concoction, sustainability workshops and forums, financial literacy and bookkeeping, pricing and costing, as well as product development.
While Kabalikat sa Kabuhayan training in Baliwag, Pulilan, and San Jose Del Monte will focus mainly on rural farming, trainees in Marilao will undergo urban farming, a technique designed to maximize the limited space for food production and sustainability. It targets providing low-income urban communities with essential skills in high-value crop farming by transforming underutilized urban spaces into productive gardens.
During the KSK launch in Barangay Sulivan in Baliwag City, Ms. Elenita Hernandez of the Agriculture Office stressed that the extensive phases of implementation and the inter-agency mentorship value chain of the KSK project will widely benefit farmers. “Napakaganda pong oportunidad ng proyektong ito para sa ating mga farmers upang mas lalong yumabong ang kanilang kaalaman, hindi lamang sa pagtatanim, kundi maging sa ibang aspeto tulad ng marketing, at iba pa,” shares Hernandez.
This year’s Kabalikat sa Kabuhayan Sustainable Agriculture Program in Bulacan will run until January 2024. From 2007 to 2022, the SM Foundation’s KSK was able to train 28,550 farmers, of whom 917 are from Bulacan. Overall, a total of 916 municipalities and cities around the country benefited from the said project.

If you did not make the request or if it is different from what you want to do, do not enter your OTP on any site or send it to anyone, to make sure you are not unknowingly linking your account to another device. Never share your OTP and MPIN. Never provide your personal information if you did not initiate a request. As a rule, don’t provide sensitive information, such as your OTP and MPIN, even to your family, friends and other people claiming to be representatives of banks, companies, service providers, and government agencies. Remember that GCash will never ask for these details from you.

The largest human mattress dominoes was previously recorded in Brazil, consisting of 2,019 people. It was achieved by Globo Comunicação e Participações S.A. and Ortobom at Riocentro, in Rio de Janeiro, on August 6, 2019. The attempt lasted 11 minutes and 13 seconds. After which, all the 2,019 mattresses were donated to charities.
The participants were selected from a list of volunteers, which included both Uratex employees and charity representatives. All volunteers who met the height and age criteria specified by Guinness (at least 4’11” in height, aged 16 and above) and were in good physical condition were welcomed to be part of the event.
“Teamwork is what made us last for 55 years, and by collectively striving to set a world record for the largest human mattress dominoes, each individual plays a crucial role in achieving this feat,” Eddie Gallor, Executive Vice President for Automotive. “And because Uratex is dedicated to giving back to various charitable causes.
