The account safety and security of every banking consumer will always be the priority of any financial institution. Nowadays, many banks are improving their systems and taking active measures to prevent threats of loss, breach, or fraud to their clients’ bank account.
One of the largest commercial banks in the country, RCBC has long been recognized to be a trusted banking partner of many Filipinos. As it continues to put its customers first, it takes action to educate everyone about how they can help safeguard their accounts.
As a Bank customer, here are some simple practices you can follow to keep the integrity of your account:
Inform your bank about changes in your personal information
Just like how you should change your bank PIN to avoid fraudulent activities, personal details such as contact numbers, email addresses, and home addresses must also be updated as it helps the bank in making sure that information is securely delivered only to you.
Be aware of who you are speaking to
Do not disclose any sensitive information to just anyone. Nowadays, scammers are going as far as posing like a regular employee from your certified bank. They might ask you to give card details in exchange of interesting promos and prizes. Know that RCBC will never ask for your password, PIN or security code on the phone or online.
Regularly review transaction history
Know your finances and always keep yourself up-to-date about the current balance of your account. RCBC offers hassle-free online viewing of your statement of account, or eStatements, when you visit www.rcbconlinebanking.com and enroll your account. You may still opt to have a printed copy delivered to your mail address or picked up at your branch of account subject to corresponding monthly fees.
Keep records of your banking activities
All your transactions are recorded in your monthly Statement of Account. Make sure you regularly review this to ensure that transactions reflected there are actually your own. For transactions done over the bank counter, it helps to secure a machine validated slip of your exchange with the bank before leaving the branch premises.
If you have a passbook, do not forget to bring it with you and have it updated to help manage your finances. You must also take the transaction receipts every time you go to the ATM to keep track of your daily cash withdrawals. For online transactions, make it a habit to check the confirmation emails that you will receive.
Along with these useful tips, RCBC wants to assure its banking clients that they are using advanced security technology and are putting quality systems and processes in place to help defend accounts from online and offline threats by issuing a One-Time-Password (OTP) sent to the client’s mobile number for online transactions.
The bank continues to empower Filipinos with innovative financial products and services that safeguard the trust that consumers have placed upon them.
You turn it on and run it across your carpet and the job’s done, right?
Nope. Your floors are really, really dirty and using a vacuum cleaner properly is essential to keeping them as clean, and healthy, as possible.
You don’t have to go to school for it. There are actually schools for it, though. Yeah – I didn’t know that either. When they said education budgets were being cut I didn’t know they meant cut-a-rug! Ok, let me get my feet back on the floor…
All bad jokes aside, you need to take the vacuum cleaning process seriously to assure the best results. It’s not hard, but it’s important to do it right nonetheless.
“One Direction” Is a Boy Band, Not a Cleaning Technique
When you mow your lawn you follow a path and usually do so each time you’re out there. There are arguments on both sides of the proverbial fence that either say it doesn’t matter, or it matters a lot to the health of the grass. I’m on the side that “doesn’t care” because I have allergies and don’t cut grass. Vacuuming your carpets is another thing. Dirt and debris is small and can sink to the bottom of the carpet piles. Running your vacuum cleaner in one direction or on one path all the time just helps embed the that dirt and debris further into your floors. Vacuum in cross sections and always go back over what you just cleaned from a different direction. Each week you vacuum, start at a different spot as well. Your carpet will last longer, stay fresher and be easier to maintain if you don’t listen to “One Direction…” … I mean vacuum in several directions each time.
Are You a Half Empty or Half Full Person?
I remember being younger and more immature (emphasis on more) and being aggravated by all the older people who thought they knew more than I did. Ahem. It turns out it is better for your car to fill you gas tank up when the meter is at ¼ full. It turns out you really can run out of gas faster than you think. Vacuum cleaner bags need air to flow through them to work at maximum efficacy. Waiting until they are bursting full is a bad idea. Sure, it means you have to buy more bags, but that’s better than having to buy a new vacuum cleaner when the motor burns out from being overworked. Check your bags regularly and empty/replace them at ¾ full, max. Get the full picture about vacuum cleaners by reading reviews.
Don’t FilaBUSTer Your Filter
The other day a friend of mine asked me to look at her vacuum cleaner to see why it wasn’t picking up debris anymore. One look inside and I knew what had to be done. I put on my Hazmat suit and went to work. Filters need to be cleaned. And I don’t mean just to shake them off outside once in awhile. If they are not regularly and properly maintenance they will not do their jobs. Worse yet they will cause your vacuum cleaner to overwork, overheat, break down and spit dirt back into your rooms. Wear a dust mask (seriously) and shake or tap off as much loose dust and dirt from your filter as you can. Next, use a plastic spoon or knife and pry out all the gunk that’s stuck in the crevices of your filter. Use high water pressure and spray your filter with hot water repeatedly. You can also spray it with white vinegar mixed with water and an essential oil of your choice (Lavender is nice in vacuum cleaners) before and after hosing it down. Please: you must let the filter dry out thoroughly before re-installing it in your machine. Give it at least 24 hours and use a blow dryer on gentle heat is you must to be sure.
Sometimes It’s Good To Be Attached
In the esoteric world not binge attached to anything is a widely taught lesson. The concept of impermanence is a focal point. In the tangible world occupied by vacuum cleaners, you need to be attached to your attachments. The crevice tool is great for corners and between cushions. The brush tool is good for blinds and around box springs. The upholstery tool is good for, well…upholstery. You don’t really need to buy the .net or .mirror or .club domain for your mememe.com website. It’s fun, though, so no judgment. You also don’t need that extra warranty plan on your new purchase. But you do need to take advantage to the attachments that come with your vacuum cleaner to do the best job you can on your home.
A SNIP-pet of Good Advice
Pet owners know what this is about. But chances are, all of you do. Hair, string and other long, dangly things get wrapped around your roller brush and jam up you vacuum cleaner. Don’t pull on them. Get a scissors and snip them until they come free easily.
Guide Me Home, Scotty!
Retractable cords are great. But don’t let them just zip back in place unguided. It’s bad for the machine and worse, can cause injury. Hold on to them and guide them back in, slowly.
What Do You Mean You Didn’t Bring The Map?
It’s a road trip with a specific destination. You plan out a route so you get there the safest, fastest or most scenic. GPS’s have replaced most maps and are programmed to guide you around construction delays and accidents. You have to be the GPS for your vacuum cleaner. Clutter on the floor is annoying and time- consuming when you’re all set to start cleaning. Always pick things up off the floor and move furniture appropriately before you start vacuum cleaning.

The local economy may be going through a few rough patches but there are bright spots on the horizon. For one, the Philippine automotive industry is slowly yet steadily growing, currently producing 400,000 cars yearly versus 100,000 a decade ago. Annual car sales in the country are also projected to reach one million units by 2028. The increasing demand means the industry will make more cars, requiring more quality engineers, technicians, specialists, and other professionals within the decade.
With the Philippine automotive sector becoming an employment hotspot, companies are partnering with the public sector to raise awareness about the different opportunities that jobhunters and educational institutions can maximize. Last September 28, the Philippine Auto Industry-Academia Linkage (PAAL) Congress was conducted by a coalition of four organizations – JobStreet Philippines, Department of Trade and Industry-Board of Investments (DTI-BOI), Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA), and Technological Institute of the Philippines (TIP). The first-of-its-kind the country, the event connected schools and training centers with automotive companies, bolstering collaboration and cooperation towards future projects and programs that can benefit more students, jobseekers, and businesses.
The 1 st Philippine Auto Industry-Academia Linkage (PAAL) Congress gets a head start on preparing the country’s future auto industry professionals and technology experts.
Preparing to meet higher demand
The coalition estimates that by 2028, direct employment in the industry will grow by 700,000 to 1.17 million more jobs. Indirect employment will also increase, with many new jobs expected to open in the production of car parts and materials, automotive sales and maintenance, transport and storage, and petroleum stations. For these prospects to be optimized, the industry needs to address the limited knowledge and on-the-job training opportunities in the different companies, processes, and technical skills involved in the car production chain; human resources’ difficulties in fielding and finding candidates with suitable educational background; and the need for schools and training centers to connect to a bigger and more beneficial network of partners.
The PAAL Congress thus brought together students, teachers, trainers, employers, engineers, and executives in a series of learning and networking sessions. It aimed to help participants better understand the industry as a whole – its different players, demands, and standards; realize the career potential and different opportunities opening up in the automotive sector; and enable car companies to offer more input in schools’ curricula, thereby developing the right employee candidates in the near future.
The different talks by field experts offered an overview of the local industry, sharing its realities, trends, potentials, job market needs, and future goals. Participants also heard from practitioners in a panel discussion and asked questions in a fruitful Q&A. Later in the day was the career and product exhibition that showcased the various companies in the automotive supply chain and the different job options. Resumes were also submitted and same-day interviews were held.
“There are more than 100 companies in the industry’s supply chain. With the expected growth in the sector, there’s going to be a lot of recruitment activity within the near future. Through the congress, the partnership has opened bigger doors for dialogue and cooperation, which in turn will provide the sector with valuable information and insights that can multiply opportunities further. We at JobStreet Philippines have been learning so much through this partnership, and we consider it a pleasure to be able to use this knowledge to make the best-fitting matches between even more employers and thousands of Filipino jobseekers. This partnership has empowered all of us here to create and seek even more growth prospects for more people,” says Philip Gioca, Country Manager of JobStreet Philippines.

More plans in the future
As a post-event service and to ensure the long-range impact of the event, feedback will be collected. Among the success indicators are the number and quality of industry-academia partnerships that were formed, job applications facilitated, increased interest and engagement in auto industry careers, and regular communication among the participants who connected with each other. Summaries of the speeches and discussions, tips and other learnings will also be shared online to reach more people.
Gioca adds: “It’s key to monitor the effect of this first congress to help us create better and more effective career and learning experiences in the future. There is unlimited potential in the technology-based skills and working attitude of Filipinos and we will keep supporting them through diverse programs. We have many more partnerships and activities planned.”
Over 50 educational and training institutions, 40 companies, and 800 individuals joined the congress, which is also part of the Elaboration of Industrial Promotion Plans using Value Chain Analysis project. The two-year pilot project operated by JICA and DTI promotes the automotive industry through the development and implementation of concrete policies and plans.

Merz, a global leader in providing cutting-edge technology in the Aesthetics Industry, exposes the truth behind a beauty treatment that is gaining popularity globally – beauty fillers.
With 110years in the market, Merz continues to focus on its mission to allow patients to LIVE BETTER, FEEL BETTER and LOOK BETTER.
Merz also brought the popular aesthetic treatment, Ultherapy, to the Philippines. It is a US FDA-cleared noninvasive procedure that is proven to lift the Brow, Cheeks, Chin and Decollate.
Merz Beauty Agenda: A Forum on Fillers expounds on the different types of fillers available in the market
Patients reveal positive impact of fillers after treatment
Manila, Philippines – Works of art are continuously restored over time – isn’t a person a work of art, too? This is a famous saying by a revered aesthetic surgeon from Germany. Indeed, a person is a work of art and yet, opting to undergo aesthetic treatments as a way of enhancing beauty is still a heated topic today.
Merz, one the leaders in the field of aesthetics medicine, led a beauty agenda at the Grand Hyatt Manila recently, that sought to shed light on the bigger picture – that opting for beauty fillers should not be frowned upon. The forum, dubbed as ‘Merz Aesthetics Beauty Agenda: A Forum on Fillers,’ helped debunk the different misconceptions that can possibly hinder women to be fully empowered when it comes to getting beauty treatments.
Driven by the mission to help people live better, feel better and look better, Merz, together with Dr. Wilson Ho, Dr. Gaile Robredo-Vitas, Dr. Gio Dimayuga, and Dr. Gerald Sy, provided an in-depth look on beauty fillers tackling the most common myths that exist today.
YOU WON’T LOOK NATURAL
Dr. Gio Dimayuga, an active consultant at the Makati Medical Center and several clinics in Manila asserts, “There is what you call the ‘overfilled’ syndrome where lip and cheek injections can result in a trout pout or pillow face.”
He mentioned that there are aesthetic companies that innovate to achieve as much natural-looking results as possible. With Merz’s 65 years of dedication to beauty since launching the first anti-wrinkle cream in 1953, they have committed to deliver natural-looking outcomes while putting their patients as the focus of every product. This is particularly evident with the patented technology behind their HA Filler, which is designed to integrate seamlessly into the skin tissue. And CaHa Filler which is considered as more than just a filler with its power lifting and bio-stimulation properties that allows patients to naturally produce collagen and tighten their skin.
ANYONE CAN DO DERMAL FILLER TREATMENTS
This is a common misconception faced today. The doctors in the forum stressed that it is crucial to note that only doctors can administer dermal fillers as it is a medical procedure.
Dr. Gerald Sy, the Vice President of Internal Affairs of the Philippine Association of Plastic, Reconstructive, and Aesthetic Surgeons, Inc. highlights, “It is highly essential that prospective patients only look for experienced doctors who boast of several years in the aesthetics industry for their treatments. This is how we can avoid the ‘horror stories’ that result from procedures such as the overfilled syndrome.”
DOCTORS CAN USE ANY TYPE OF FILLERS ON YOUR FACE
“Only certain fillers for certain parts of the face have been approved by the FDA – so any type of filler in the market cannot be just used on your face,” states Dr. Gaile Robredo-Vitas, resident expert at St. Luke’s Medical Centre Bonifacio Global City and various clinics in Metro Manila.
For safety reasons, the FDA recognition for fillers is an essential factor when deciding to opt for dermal fillers.
JUST ANY KIND OF FILLERS ARE GOOD FOR YOU
There are many fillers that exist in the market – the HA, CaHa and you also have the permanent or non-permanent fillers. HA filler is considered as the most commonly used fillers by medical practitioners but only doctors can recommend the best filler suited for each patient as it is a case-to-case basis.
The medical practitioners shared that though there are dermal filler ‘horror stories’ people account for at times, many of these are not based on facts and are just misleading information. They stressed that safety is of utmost priority, together with years of proven research and technological development which is why it’s important to trust established aesthetics brands when it comes to choosing dermal fillers. Aside from having experts to discuss about this, there were also patients that shared their journey in immersing themselves in aesthetics treatments.
The Modern-Day Filipina Woman
Globally, studies have shown that there is an increasing traction on the societal acceptance of beauty fillers and that it can be regarded as ‘mainstream’ to the everyday woman.
In the Philippines, though there is a growing consumer demand, many still find it a challenge to admit that they have undergone aesthetic treatments. Insecurity is often equated with undergoing aesthetic treatments and the forum served as a platform for filler patients to share their experience and how Merz contributed in battling these issues.
“I have always seen myself as someone beautiful, but there are those days. I never wanted to change how I look but rather, I only wanted to accentuate the beauty that I already have. With Merz and the minimally invasive treatments they offer, I felt more empowered to make the decision of having fillers injected on me,” shared Agoo Bengzon, beauty editor.
Guests were also treated to aromatic, and beauty and wellness stations, with on-the-spot assessments led by Dr. Gaile Robredo-Vitas and Dr. Gio Dimayuga. The event culminated with a toast, in celebration of the forum’s success and Merz’s 110th year anniversary.

Through the donation, SM Supermalls sought to encourage and motivate students to do well in school.
“We all know that shoes are basic commodity that everybody needs but sadly not everybody can afford” says SM City San Jose Del Monte Mall Manager Jose Mari Emmanuel Correa. Many Filipinos today are turning to various digital platforms to make their everyday transactions quick and easy. Even local companies and organizations are shifting to online channels with programs that provide convenience and efficiency for their consumers.
Recently, the Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas (BSP) has introduced the National Retail Payment System (NRPS) framework to help create a safe, efficient, affordable and reliable electronic payment system that is interconnected and interoperable, to pave the way for the country’s transition to a cash-lite economy.
In support of this endeavor, RCBC further elevates its services to bring a more efficient and affordable way of sending and receiving money anytime and anywhere in the country, with Instapay. Through this partnership, RCBC expands its network for interbank fund transfer to more than 20 financial institutions – including Bancnet banks and Instapay partners – enabling their clients to do real-time electronic payments & credit transfers.
RCBC clients can experience more convenient transfers as Instapay transactions can be done in various electronic channels. It is accessible 24 hours a day using RCBC Online Banking platforms, both available in app and web formats, saving the hassle of actually going to a bank or payment counter and lining up to make a transaction.
With Instapay, RCBC account holders can also enjoy lower fees and charges, as low as P15 per transfer, as long as the receiving bank is a legitimate service partner. To start transacting via Instapay, RCBC customers should enroll their active checking or savings account in online banking. The recipient from the other bank should also be registered as a beneficiary to be able to receive the funds.
To enroll an account, just choose the bank that is also a listed participant of Instapay, input the account number and full name of the beneficiary, then click “submit”. Once enrolled as beneficiary, transfers to these accounts will be automatically routed. Since RCBC is also an active Instapay receiver, you can accept funds & credits transferred to your RCBC account sent from other Instapay banks. You can simply wait for the fund to be credited to your RCBC account & check your balance online.
Customers can transfer up to P50,000 per transaction and funds are instantly credited to the receiving account in full as there is no fee charged for the electronic fund transfer. However, consumers who will send money may be charged depending on their bank.
Along with BSP, RCBC is making the move to use online platforms for all transactions. So the next time you have urgent bills to pay or need to send allowance to a family member, just log-in to your RCBC online banking account and transfer money via Instapay.
(From left) Coca-Cola ASEAN VP for Marketing Jose Luis Basauri, Coca-Cola Philippines Director of Public Affairs Jonah de Lumen-Pernia, and Vice President for Marketing Stephan Czypionka, try out the Coke Studio TuneCycle – a stationary bicycle that shreds PET bottles and other plastics to be used as ecobricks and pervious pavers.
For most people, waste recycling and creating music are simply two things that are worlds apart. But at the recent launch of Coke Studio Season 2 at the World Trade Center in Manila, these two ideas shared one stage to raise awareness about a growing plastic waste problem among the youth.
One of the highlights of the event was a live demonstration of the TuneCycle, a makeshift recyclable PET (polyethylene terephthalate) bottle grinder that is powered by a pedal mechanism – similar to those found in bicycles. The TuneCycle also has earphones for the user to listen to original Pilipino music (OPM) as they pedal away.
This is part of the global goal of The Coca-Cola Company of a World Without Waste. In January this year, Coca-Cola announced an ambitious goal to collect and recycle the equivalent of every bottle or can sold by year 2030. In the Philippines, one of the ways to reach this goal is to bring back PET bottles home through Coke Studio.
The Coca-Cola leadership team initiates action for the global World Without Waste mission with the Coke Studio TuneCycle.
“This is an interactive way of making the public, particularly the youth, more involved in recycling. It may be a small step, but it helps inculcate the act of recycling in their lives. As we at Coca-Cola continue to find solutions to realize a World Without Waste, every action, no matter how small, actually counts,” said Jonah de Lumen-Pernia, Director for Public Affairs and Communications of Coca-Cola Philippines.
As one of the avenues that bring Coca-Cola closer to the youth, music is also being tapped to make recycling more relevant to the younger market. As part of the Coke Studio caravan, the TuneCycle aims to amplify how each recyclable PET bottle can have another purpose after the consumption of its content. In the case of TuneCycle, the shredded recyclable PET bottles will become part of eco-bricks that will serve as pavers for a public school.
“Every action to breathe new life into recyclables matters. Every action brings us closer to realizing the vision of a World Without Waste. With the TuneCycle, we are able to inspire more people to find ways for recyclable PET bottles to come home and breathe second lives into them, instead of throwing them in dumpsites, or worst, ending up in our oceans,” said de Lumen-Pernia.
Watch out for future Coke Studio events and bring recyclable PET bottles to their home in Coca-Cola.
