PLDT Enterprise, in partnership with ePLDT, hosted the Intelligent Enterprise Workshop for Retail, gathering industry leaders to explore how data, AI, and managed services can transform retail operations and customer experiences.
MANILA, Philippines — PLDT Enterprise, together with ePLDT, recently brought together decision-makers from top retail brands for the Intelligent Enterprise Workshop for Retail, with sessions on Google Cloud’s AI solutions. The event showed how data-driven insights, AI readiness, and managed services can unlock innovation and help retailers reimagine day-to-day operations — from inventory management to customer engagement.
The workshop, designed for retail leaders including CXOs, CMOs, and IT managers, addressed pressing challenges such as fragmented data systems, scalability issues, and the growing demand for secure and compliant AI-driven data strategies. By applying technology into real-world retail contexts, the session emphasized how AI and managed services can personalize shopping experiences while optimizing operational overhead.
A Commitment to Retail Innovation
At the event, PLDT Enterprise reaffirmed its commitment to supporting the evolving needs of Philippine retailers. Through ePLDT’s expertise in managed services, the initiative highlighted how businesses can move beyond legacy systems toward scalable, secure, and future-ready digital infrastructure.
“Today’s smart retailer is embracing a new era of shopping, blending human touch with technology to deliver a more tailored consumer experience,” said Corinne Funk-Zablan, Customer Relationship Management Head at PLDT Enterprise.
Jerry Dy, Technology Solutions Consultant at ePLDT, added: “In today’s fast-evolving retail landscape, managed services play a critical role in enabling data-driven and AI-powered transformation. By providing scalable infrastructure, continuous optimization, and expert support, managed services empower retailers to focus on innovation — unlocking real-time insights, enhancing customer experiences, and accelerating intelligent decision-making across the enterprise.”
Real-world AI-powered Use Cases
Through live discussions and case studies, the workshop demonstrated how Google Cloud’s integrated data analytics and AI platform helps retailers break down data silos, deliver real-time insights, and personalize the customer journey. Real-world examples—such as AI-powered supply chain optimization, predictive inventory, and smarter in-store experiences—showed how these technologies translate into faster service, stronger customer loyalty, and more resilient operations.
Participants also learned how Google Workspace with Gemini supports employees in day-to-day tasks by reducing administrative workloads and fostering collaboration across teams.
Future-Proofing the Industry
The workshop highlighted that while many retailers still face barriers in AI adoption, ranging from infrastructure gaps and data quality and security to skill readiness, solutions such as managed services, modernized data warehouse, and AI-powered analytics provide a clear path forward.
By convening retail leaders, PLDT Enterprise and ePLDT are accelerating AI adoption and shaping a retail industry that is smarter, more secure, and more responsive to the everyday needs of modern Filipino consumers.

By fostering dialogue and discovery, the series helps leaders transform ideas into action and potential into real impact on communities and people.

The event brought together thought leaders including WASP Founder Captain Caroline Nacional and Joie Cruz, CEO of Limitless Lab, who shared insights on inclusive innovation and responsible technology adoption.
Empowering Startups Through Innovation and Security
Mickey Ruiz, Head of Innovations and Product Development at PLDT Enterprise, underscored the dual importance of innovation and protection in the digital era.
“Cybercrime is no longer a distant threat—it’s here, it’s real, and it’s growing,” Ruiz said. “Startups are agile and fast-moving, but that agility must be matched with awareness and readiness. Security is not a luxury—it’s a foundation.”
Mickey Ruiz, Head of Innovations and Product Development at PLDT Enterprise, highlights the critical role of cybersecurity and collaboration in enabling secure innovation for startups.
Ruiz also highlighted how PLDT Enterprise is helping startups leverage AI securely and ethically, while building a culture of collaboration across industries and organizations to innovate and grow together.
“Cybersecurity isn’t a solo mission. It’s a team sport. And when startups collaborate with the right partners, they gain not just tools—but trust, knowledge, and resilience to innovate boldly in the digital world,” he added.
The event also showcased PLDT Enterprise’s latest technology solutions that are helping businesses strengthen their operations, including SmartSafe, Cybersecurity Infrastructure, and AI-driven tools that enable seamless, secure, and scalable growth
Driving Collaboration and Digital Resilience
Beyond technology, the event emphasized the power of collaboration — bringing together startups, advocates, and organizations that share the goal of turning ideas into reality. PLDT Enterprise reinforced its commitment to co-innovate with partners who bring specialized expertise to help startups integrate technology safely and meaningfully into their growth journey.
The discussions also tackled emerging industry trends such as AI-driven fraud prevention, cloud-based cybersecurity frameworks, and digital ethics, underscoring how businesses can embrace innovation without compromising trust.
A Commitment to a Safer and Smarter Digital Future
As part of its brand promise, PLDT Enterprise reaffirmed its mission to support businesses — from startups to large-scale enterprises — in embracing innovation while ensuring operational security and continuity.
Ruiz concluded: “Innovation is exciting. AI is powerful. And startups are the lifeblood of our digital future. But without security, innovation is fragile. Our goal at PLDT Enterprise is to help businesses not only build, but build securely, ethically, and boldly.”

Following an inspiring performance at the 2025 World Barista Championship (WBC) in Milan, twotime Philippine National Barista champion, Michael Harris Conlin shares his vision for the future of Filipino coffee. Conlin, who secured a remarkable 13th place overall and took home the distinction of Best Espresso in Round One of the global competition, unveils his groundbreaking invention, The Better Vessel.
Conlin’s performance at the WBC was a testament to collaboration and purpose. His signature espresso—a complex, harmonious blend of Philippine Liberica and Colombian Eugenioides, cocreated with producer Wilton Benitez— immediately captured the judges’ attention. This blend was lauded not just for its complexity, but for showcasing the untapped potential of Philippine Liberica on the world stage.
“For a fleeting instant, the world understood what my heart has been trying to say,” Conlin shared regarding his Round One success. “That cup represented people, passion, and the power of working together. It was a clear win for every dreamer who has ever believed that coffee could build bridges instead of walls.”
The core of Conlin’s vision is not a trophy, but transformation, which is embodied by his latest innovation, The Better Vessel. This revolutionary tool is designed to make high-quality espresso more approachable and consistent for both seasoned baristas and everyday consumers.
The Better Vessel achieves this by gently and selectively removing the bitterness and harshness of crema, allowing for a longer, cleaner, and sweeter shot extraction.
“The discoveries we made were never meant to stay on a stage; they were meant to ripple outward,” Conlin states. “The Better Vessel is a small step forward with a big purpose: to ring more people into the world of espresso by making it less intimidating and more inclusive.”
For the professional coffee industry, the tool promises to simplify the dialing-in process, drastically reducing waste and improving consistency. More importantly, this innovation is positioned to propel Philippine coffee culture globally by setting a new, high standard for quality espresso that is both technically flawless and universally appealing.
Conlin believes that by simplifying the science and sharing the techniques, he can lift the entire local value chain, inspiring Filipino farmers and producers to further explore and experiment without fear.
