Among the first Philippine banks to champion secure, seamless mobile payments
EastWest takes another bold step in digital innovation as it becomes one of the first Philippine banks to launch Google Pay™, enabling EastWest Visa and Mastercard Credit cardholders to make faster, safer, and more convenient payments using their Android devices.
This milestone is part of EastWest’s deliberate strategy to redefine how Filipinos pay by leveraging technology to make everyday transactions simpler, smarter, and more secure. Through Google Wallet™, customers can easily add their EastWest cards and enjoy tap-to-pay convenience at any contactless-enabled terminal, or checkout online without manually entering card details.
Every transaction is safeguarded by advanced tokenization technology backed by EastWest’s trusted security systems, which replaces actual card numbers with unique digital codes. Merchants never see or store real card information; giving customers confidence and control every time they pay.
“EastWest has always championed innovations that make life easier for Filipinos. With Google Pay™, we’re empowering our cardholders to pay with confidence anytime, anywhere — the easier way to pay,” said Jerry G. Ngo, EastWest CEO. “This is our ongoing commitment to bring world-class, secure, and intuitive payment experiences to our customers.”
The introduction of Google Pay™ further strengthens EastWest’s position as a trailblazer in contactless and digital payments, following the success of its own EWPay contactless platform. It also highlights the Bank’s competitive edge as it leads the way ahead of major players still preparing to join the platform.
“We’re proud to work with EastWest to bring faster, convenient, and more secure payments to the Philippines. This launch underscores our enduring commitment to accelerating financial inclusion and fueling the next chapter of the Philippines’ dynamic digital economy.” said Prep Palacios, Country Manager, Google Philippines.
Cardholders can begin using Google Pay™ by adding their EastWest Visa or Mastercard Credit cards to the Google Wallet™ app on any compatible Android device. EastWest Visa Debit cards will be enabled for Google Pay ™ soon.
This launch marks just the beginning of a suite of innovative payment solutions EastWest is set to roll out as part of its continuing mission to make banking easier, safer, and more empowering for every Filipino.
EastWest, foodpanda, and Visa jointly introduced their cobranded credit card at a launch event held in Makati City, where they welcomed media friends for a first look at the new product. It also gives 1 percent cash back on all international spend and 0.3 percent on local transactions, with a total monthly cashback cap of Php 1,000 to be credited weekly to the user’s pandapay wallet. These features bring real-time value to one of today’s most popular digital lifestyles.

Built on a shared goal of creating connected experiences, the card is designed to simplify how customers pay, order, and enjoy their everyday essentials. The Palawan Group of Companies proudly welcomed 158 new scholars as part of its continuing commitment to making a difference in the lives of Filipinos. With Education as one of its corporate social responsibility pillars, the Palawan Group of Companies Scholarship Program (PGC-SP) remains the company’s CSR flagship initiative.
The 28th batch of PGC-SP was officially welcomed through a Confirmation and Orientation Day held at the company’s head office in Puerto Princesa City.
The 28th batch of PGC scholars gathers for a milestone moment as they officially join the Palawan Group of Companies’ growing community of future leaders.
Through the PGC-SP, scholars receive financial assistance for their academic needs and have access to dedicated facilities, such as a study room and printer at the Palawan Group head office, to support their studies. Beyond academic support, the program also emphasizes holistic development through values formation and leadership training — ensuring that each scholar grows into a responsible, compassionate, and purpose-driven individual who embodies the values of the Palawan Group of Companies.
Chairman Bobby L. Castro speaks from the heart, reminding scholars that education, paired with perseverance, can transform lives — just as it did for his own family.
Founder and Chairman Bobby L. Castro reflected on how scholarships shaped his own family’s journey: “Kami ng aking asawa at ang aming limang anak ay mga scholars din noon. Kaya naman, nang magsimulang lumaki ang Palawan Pawnshop noong 1998, naisip namin na mainam na magkaroon din kami ng scholarship program para makatulong sa mga estudyanteng may pangarap at nagsisikap. Nagsimula kami noon sa sampu, hanggang nadadagdagan taon-taon.” (Our entire family — my wife, our five children, and I — were also once scholars. Those opportunities helped shape our future. That’s why, in 1998, as Palawan Pawnshop began to grow, my wife and I thought it was only right to start a scholarship program to support underprivileged students with big dreams. We began with just ten scholars, and the number has continued to grow each year).
With sincerity and hope, CHRO Korina Castro-Fernando inspires the scholars to study with dedication and live by strong values in all they do.
(You are the faces of hope, the inspiration of our nation. We do not ask for anything in return from our scholars, but if I may offer advice: study well, strive hard, and always choose to be a good person).
Angelita M. Castro calls on scholars to be informed, principled citizens — urging them to pursue success with integrity and a deep love for the nation.
Meanwhile, Deputy Chairman and Co-founder, Angelita M. Castro, reminded the scholars that true education extends beyond academics. “Kailangan alam niyo ang nangyayari sa ating bayan. Iisa lang ang bansa natin, kaya nararapat itong mahalin at ingatan. Bilang aming mga iskolar, ang hiling ko sa inyo: kapag mga propesyunal na kayo, pakaingatan ang inyong integridad at ‘wag na ‘wag magiging korap. Piliin ang umunlad at makatulong sa pamilya sa malinis na paraan.” (You must be aware of social issues and protect the integrity of our nation. We only have one country, so we should love and protect it. As our scholars, my ask of you is this: someday, when you are in a position, when you have become professionals, maintain your integrity and never be corrupt. Work hard to succeed in your chosen paths and support your families with honesty and compassion.
Scholar Lovie Ubay steps up with gratitude and pride, pledging on behalf of her fellow scholars to honor the opportunity given and pay it forward through future success.
The heartfelt messages from the members of the Board of Directors were met with a sincere response delivered on behalf of the batch by Lovie Ubay, a BA Communication student at Palawan State University. (We will take this blessing as an inspiration to work even harder in our studies. We will never waste the trust and support you have given us, and we believe that one day, we will be able to give back the kindness that the Palawan Group of Companies has shown us through our success.)
Through the PGC-SP, the Palawan Group reaffirms its belief that empowering the Filipino youth through education is the key to nation-building — one scholar, one family, and one community at a time. To date, it has produced close to 800 graduates, many of whom are now licensed teachers, certified public accountants, and entrepreneurs. Many have also joined the company in various functions, helping it fulfill its mission of providing reliable financial services to Filipinos, from the busiest cities to the most remote barrios.
TCL, the Philippines’ No. 1 Panel TV brand and a global leader in TV and air conditioner sales, has made laundry solution smarter, easier, and quicker with the arrival of TCL Super Drum C682. It’s a sophisticated laundry solution designed to maximize cleaning efficiency while prioritizing fabric care and user convenience. By integrating innovative technology and intelligent design, the TCL Super Drum C682 sets a new standard for modern home appliances.
Built on the core philosophy of smart clean and supreme care, this washing machine transcends ordinary cleaning. It seamlessly combines a bigger drum, advanced stain removal, and intelligent features that perfectly adapt to your family’s needs, delivering everything from efficiency and convenience to superior fabric-friendly care.
“The TCL Super Drum C682 truly is a game-changer. By injecting genuine intelligence into laundry technology, we are setting a new industry benchmark. This machine is engineered to surpass all expectations, guaranteeing superior cleaning performance and the most economical use of water and energy available,” says Eric Li, Senior Product Manager of Washing Machine and Refrigerator, TCL Philippines.
Here are the five key features that solidify the TCL Super Drum C682 as a game-changer in laundry technology.
1. The Ultra-Large 540mm Super Drum
The defining feature of the C682 is its massive drum diameter. At 540mm drum, the Super Drum is significantly larger than standard washing machine drums. With more room for clothes to drop naturally, this ultra-large size reduces friction and tangling for improved fabric care. It ensures garments are handled gently, protecting them from damage and wear, especially delicate or bulky items.
This feature also gives superior washing performance that allows water and detergent to penetrate deep into fabrics more effectively, leading to a deeper, more thorough, and more hygienic clean for every load.
Lastly, it is very ideal for large households with its increased volume that easily accommodates bulky items like comforters, blankets, and large loads of family laundry, reducing the number of cycles required.
2. DD Inverter Motor Technology (Direct Drive)
The C682 utilizes a Direct Drive (DD) Inverter Motor, eliminating the traditional belt mechanism found in conventional machines. This technological advancement translates directly into enhanced performance and longevity for exceptional durability and reliability with fewer moving parts, the risk of component wear and tear is dramatically reduced, leading to a longer lifespan for the machine.
Furthermore, the direct drive mechanism significantly minimizes vibration and noise, making the C682 one of the quietest washers in its class—perfect for homes where laundry is done near living spaces or bedrooms.
It also optimizes energy efficiency with its precise control offered by the inverter technology that controls the power consumption for the load size and wash cycle selected, leading to substantial savings on electricity bills.
3. Smart Control and Auto Dosing
The integration of intelligent functions makes the laundry process effortless, ensuring optimal results every time without guesswork with its automatic dosing system that highlights sensors that automatically calculate the precise amount of detergent and softener required based on the load size and soil level. This prevents wastage, avoids residue buildup on clothes, and guarantees the best possible clean.
TCL Super Drum C682 is also created with smart features that allow users to control and monitor the washing machine remotely via the TCL Home app. You can start, pause, and track cycles, receive alerts, and even download specialized programs, adding a layer of convenience to busy modern schedules.
4. Steam Wash + ActiveFresh Function
In today’s hygiene-conscious world, the ability to sanitize fabrics is essential. The TCL Super Drum C682 addresses this need with its powerful steam wash feature with its deep sanitization giving high-temperature steam penetrates deeply into fabrics, effectively eliminating bacteria, allergens, and dust mites without relying on harsh chemicals.
It also introduces steam to help relax fabric fibers, significantly reducing wrinkles and making the ironing process much easier, or in some cases, unnecessary.
The TCL Super Drum C682 also has ActiveFresh Function that prevents moisture buildup, bad odors keeping the clothes fresh even if you forget to unload immediately.
5. Ocean Wave Pattern
C682’s Drum has the upgraded Ocean-wave pattern design, making it more suitable for ultra-thin, large diameter washing machines. Ensures cleaner washing results while being gentler on clothes.
In essence, the C682’s Ocean-wave Drum speaks of a modern solution that addresses the conflicting demands of modern washing: achieving maximum cleanliness while minimizing wear and tear—all within a space-saving, high-capacity machine design.
TCL Super Drum C682 comes in 2 color variants: white (exclusively sold at all SM Appliance stores) and gray available at all authorized TCL dealers.

The holiday season is a time for giving, sharing, and showing love — and for millions of Filipinos, that love is often sent through a padala. To help you send malasakit (care) to your loved ones wherever they are in the Philippines, Palawan Group of Companies’ Palawan Express Pera Padala is made even more affordable with lower domestic remittance fees.
From October 1 to December 31, 2025, Palawan Express Pera Padal sukis can enjoy a 1% service fee on every domestic remittance send-out transaction. That means you only pay PhP 1 for every PhP 100 sent! For transactions of Php 20,001 or more, the regular service fee will apply. Customers who use PalawanPay can also enjoy a 1% fee when remitting to any Palawan branch via the app!
Whether it is for noche buena (Christmas Eve meal), aguinaldo (Christmas gift), or a simple, “thinking of you” gift, Palawan Express Pera Padala ensures that your money goes further – helping bridge the gift between you and the people you hold dearest! For us at Palawan Group, every padala is more than just money – it is a tangible reminder that love surpasses distance.
Palawan Group Chief Executive Officer Karlo M. Castro remarked, “Palawan Group is a proud 100% Pinoy company. We are run by Filipinos to serve fellow Filipinos, and deeply ingrained in our culture is a padala being more than just money — it’s a message of love, care, and connection. Through our Mas pinababang fees promo, we want to make it easier for families to send love this Christmas season, no matter the distance. Palawan Express Pera Padala has always been part of the Filipino family’s story, and this is our way of giving back — by helping them stay close even when they are physically far apart.”
Behind Every Padala, a Story of Love
Across thousands of Palawan Express Pera Padala branches and outlets across the Philippines, each padala carries out a common theme: love and sacrifice.
There’s a mother in Manila who sends her 13th-month pay to her parents in Cagayan so they can stock up the fridge as the grandchildren flock in for Christmas. We have heard of a son working in Cebu who sends a little extra to his siblings in General Santos City for their new shirts and slippers. There is also a grandmother in Bicol who uses padala service to send money for her grandchildren’s toys.
“These seemingly small but powerful acts of love and giving are what inspire us to keep doing what we do best – to become the bridge of malasakit among Filipino families, to remain mura, mabilis, at walang kuskos-balungos (affordable, fast, and hassle-free),” said Chief Marketing Officer Bernard Kaibigan.
The peak time for sending pagmamahal at malasakit (love and care) is right here! With Palawan Express Pera Padala and PalawanPay, let remittance carry not just money but a piece of your heart this Christmas. Together, let us make every padala a reminder to your family that distance will never stop you from being part of their holidays, laughter, and every salu-salo shared around the table.

“TCL is actively broadening its reach into the commercial market, spearheaded by the TMV6 Intelligent VRF and its Full DC Inverter Central Air Conditioning System. We also showcased the Free Match Multi-Split System, providing customizable combinations to meet the flexibility demands of various projects. Our residential leadership continues with the FreshIN P7 series, a flagship line that ensures superior Indoor Air Quality by pulling in fresh external air to enhance the room’s oxygen level,” shared by Vincent Tobias, Assistant Product Manager of Air Conditioner, TCL Philippines.
The TCL TMV6 VRF System is engineered for large-scale application, boasting a maximum system capacity of 144 HP, allowing a single system to efficiently cool massive spaces. As Palawan Group celebrates four decades of service, its leaders say the vision is set firmly on the next 40 years and beyond: investing in people, strengthening leadership, and ensuring that at every step forward, the Suki remains at the heart of what they do.
For decades, PR and marketing were treated like distant cousins in the communications world. Related, but rarely in the same room. While marketing drove sales, PR built reputation — one focused on revenue, the other on relationships.
But that division won’t cut it today. Stories now move faster than campaigns, and brand trust can be won or lost overnight. This calls for the synergy between PR and marketing.
Here’s how these two collaborate towards a seamless experience.
The Shift: From Selling to Connecting
Audiences today have become more discerning, more socially aware, and more emotionally attuned. Consumers don’t just want to buy from brands; they want to believe in them.
In other words, the lines between PR and marketing have been blurred. Where marketing once focused on persuasion, PR stepped in to bring meaning. Where PR once handled image, marketing began to drive visibility. Connection now sits at the center of both disciplines.
As PR pros often say: “Marketing tells the story, PR makes people care.” In today’s era of attention scarcity, making people care is the most valuable currency.
The Traditional Divide and Why It No Longer Holds
Let’s take a quick look at how these two roles were once defined:
Public Relations
Marketing
Primary Goal
Build reputation, trust, goodwill
Drive awareness, leads, and sales
Main Channel
Earned media (press, events, advocacy)
Paid and owned media (ads, promotions, websites)
Core Message
“We’re credible and trustworthy.”
“Here’s why you should buy from us.”
Time Horizon
Long-term relationship building
Short-term conversion goals
But audiences don’t separate your brand messages anymore. When they encounter your ad, tweet, news feature, or your CEO’s interview, it’s all part of the same narrative in their minds.
That’s why the best PR agencies are also IMC experts: professionals who ensure every channel, from press to paid ads, tells a consistent, believable story.
The New Convergence: Connection as a Strategy
When PR and marketing work together, you get a cohesive brand experience. Here’s how that convergence shows up in practice:
Unified Messaging
A PR campaign about sustainability aligns with marketing content promoting eco-friendly products. This coordination ensures that credibility (PR) supports conversion (marketing), and vice versa.
Earned Amplifies Paid
PR generates stories that marketing can repurpose. A good feature article can turn into content snippets for digital ads or social media campaigns. This way, you don’t have to overproduce or underproduce content.
When marketing and PR teams collaborate, earned media fuels paid visibility while paid media reinforces the credibility PR built.
Shared Data, Shared Insight
Modern PR now relies on analytics the same way marketing teams do. By pooling their insights together, brands can understand their audiences better. A PR agency in the Philippines that studies how its target market can give marketers valuable suggestions about which strategies truly resonate.
The Feedback Loop
Every PR campaign generates conversation; every marketing campaign generates data. When both teams listen to each other, they create a feedback loop that helps future campaigns hit closer to home.
This makes storytelling more human, more authentic, and more grounded in what real people are saying. It taps into the Filipino concept of pakikipagkapwa, thus cultivating authenticity and trust.
When the Two Don’t Align
Misalignment between PR and marketing creates dissonance that audiences immediately pick up on.
A marketing ad might say “We’re all about transparency,” while a PR crisis reveals otherwise. Or a campaign promotes inclusivity, but the brand’s internal communications don’t reflect it. Sometimes, Marketing puts up sale promises they can’t keep and leaves PR to clean up the fallout.
PR can’t fix what marketing misrepresents and marketing can’t sell what PR can’t make credible. The best way is to have them work together: to have one voice, one story.
The Role of PR Agencies in Bridging the Gap
The most effective PR agencies in the Philippines today act as connectors. They help brands align their storytelling across internal and external teams through:
Message Mapping: Ensuring consistency across earned, owned, and paid media.
Media Training: So that even marketing executives stay on-message during interviews or digital appearances.
Integrated Campaign Planning: Collaborating with digital, creative, and marketing teams from the start, not after.
Reputation Tracking: Monitoring how marketing messages are perceived in real time to adjust communication strategy.
When PR leads the alignment process, the brand’s voice becomes not only consistent but believable.
The Connection Era: Beyond Conversion
Connection is the new conversion. Audiences want to know what your brand stands for. They don’t just consume content — they participate in conversations.
This requires a strong collaboration between PR and marketing. When both move in sync, your brand resonates with your audience by ensuring mixing emotional depth and credibility. One without the other can’t easily achieve that.
At the end of the day, what sustains brands is trust earned, not bought.
