Manila, Philippines, 26 January, 2018 — People’s Television 4 (PTV4), the Philippines’ public broadcasting network, has gone from analog to fully digital after the launch of the network’s
digital terrestrial broadcasting system on January 2017. NEC Philippines, Inc. provided overall support for the introduction of digital terrestrial TV equipment, including its installation and the training of personnel, as part of enabling viewers to enjoy their favorite programs with better and clearer reception.
A “switch-on” ceremony was held at PTV4’s broadcasting center in Quezon City and was led by the Secretary of the Presidential Communications Operations Office (PCOO), Martin Andanar.
Andanar said, “The administration’s goal of bringing the government closer to its people is now more achievable than ever.” At the time of his appointment, Andanar pushed efforts to modernize the state network. He envisioned PTV to be on par with its local counterparts in the country, and expanded the breadth and depth of PTV4’s educational, cultural and international programs.
PTV Network General Manager, Dino Apolonio, said that the network must keep pace with its counterparts, both locally and abroad. “As the state network, we have to take it upon ourselves
to lead the charge towards digital transition. It will be very beneficial for the people first of all, and we have to keep up with the rest of the world,” he said.
“NEC is proud to be working with PTV4 to expand the delivery of high quality broadcasting to a larger audience in the Philippines,” said Elizabeth Pangan, President, NEC Philippines. “As part
of NEC’s focus on providing Solutions for Society, this equipment will help to ensure that broadcasting and access to information is reliably maintained, especially during times of emergency, such as when powerful storms strike the region,” she added.

Shopee, the leading e-commerce platform in Southeast Asia and Taiwan, partnered with the University of the Philippines Business League to co-present the recent 2018 National Youth Business Convention (NYBC), as part of Shopee’s commitment to empowering youths in the Philippines. The 3-day business convention held from 11 to 13 January was themed ‘Ignite Innovation. Change the Nation’, and saw over a thousand student delegates from the Philippines and across Asia Pacific gather for a series of activities and talks by various industry leaders.
The younger generation has been identified as key drivers of the Philippines’ digital economy, signalling a strong need to groom the next generation of business leaders and entrepreneurs in booming digital industries, and in particular, e-commerce.
“In the Philippines, we see an increasing number of younger people turning to e-commerce to start their businesses. Shopee is committed to helping young budding entrepreneurs in the Philippines take the first step towards building their own businesses by providing them the necessary operational, knowledge, skills and financial support,” said Terence Pang, Shopee’s Chief Operating Officer.
In line with efforts to encourage more youths to participate in the Philippines’ growing digital economy,Shopee hosted a 1-day case competition for students during the event, which required participants to develop a strategy to solve real-world challenges in the e-commerce landscape. In preparation for the case, the student delegates had the opportunity to interact with Shopee employees to help them better understand the various aspects of the business. The winning team, made up of 6 student delegates from top universities across the region was awarded a 3-month paid internship opportunity with Shopee Philippines, after having impressed the judges with their business knowledge and skills.
In addition, Shopee sponsored three deserving student delegates to attend the convention. The three Shopee scholars, Chelsea Agnes Haley Go from University of San Carlos in Cebu, Inad Elizabeth Lee from University of Southern Mindanao, and Ma Sheena Joshiel Olgado from De La Salle University joined 50 other delegates to participate in the case competition and a Shopee office tour.

“I have no special talent. I am only passionately curious,” said Albert Einstein. The same can be said about Aiza Diuco, founder and CEO of Age Defying Solutions. Not that she has no special
talent, far from it, but that she is and has always been passionately curious. As a young girl, Ms. Diuco excelled in school, thanks to her mother who was a school teacher.“In everything I do, even with time management, how I take care of my things, or my company, it all boils down to self-discipline. Ms. Diuco, however, did not always want to become an entrepreneur. As a child, she wanted a career in the medical field. “I come from a family of entrepreneurs. All my brothers are entrepreneurs and we owe it all to our dad who’s a very good provider.” She went on to recount how her father had given her brothers the capital for their respective businesses.
Ms. Diuco, however, worked for other companies before working for her father. In Sara Lee Philippines, she worked as a sales training supervisor. She eventually joined her father and
worked in his company for ten years. When asked how she felt when she left the company, she said, “Actually it was difficult for me. I love my dad, I love our company. It’s a family corporation.”
She proudly told me that Glupa is her baby, and that everything about it was personally researched by her. Theirs is the only company that has the patent for the glutathione and papaya combination.
Ms. Diuco’s goal is not to be the wealthiest and most successful entrepreneur. Her son, whom she considers her inspiration, motivates her to always strive to do better. “More than providing

The field of fitness and exercise in the 21st century remains a mix of new approaches and old. New classes, programming, and choreography, in hopes of keeping it exciting and fresh, enhance traditional training methods. Running and cycling are still popular, but the past year saw the return of the 1980s rebounder trampoline craze, the continued expansion of High Intensity Training (HIIT) protocols, and growing participation in competition-based fitness like mud runs, 5Ks, and triathlons.
At the same time, as in pretty much every facet of life, society and the economy, technology is a constant driver of the exercise revolution – especially as more wearable devices come online and a wider array of apps appear on our smartphones, all of them offering people simple and easy ways to monitor their activity day by day, minute by minute.
For now, though, let’s highlight three trends that we expect to progress, emerge, or burst on the scene in 2018.
First, cross training styles are here to stay—it’s simply too effective of a way to seamlessly blend building muscle with working on your cardio all at once. It remains suitable for beginners or experienced exercisers. It can be tailored to each individual’s goals. It is a recognized strategy for everything from weight loss to weight maintenance to sports performance.

Third, Chappy Callanta, another Herbalife Nutrition FAB member and fitness coach, believes that online and distance coaching will see a steady climb in demand, popularity, and usage in the year ahead. Technology is simply making these kinds of interactions easier, so you can find the coach you want and the guidance you need, wherever you are. Not only that, but this approach to coaching is likely to include a more holistic form of mentoring, taking into account people’s physical, nutritional, and psychosocial goals at the same time.
