It was recently International Day of the Girl, and my girlfriends and I did not miss the chance to get some self-pampering. There’s truly nothing like a nice day out with your favorite girls to feel happy and empowered together.
This fact is even backed by research, as I saw on Facebook recently. University of Oxford research found that getting together with the girls twice a week is good for your health. There’s simply no reason NOT to.
A big part of what makes our get-togethers fun is the ease at which we could pay our way through them, whether at a salon, a spa, or our favorite shops. No cash at hand? No problem! Mobile wallet GCash has been our constant companion. There’s plenty of shops out there where GCash Scan to Pay transactions are accepted.
I strongly suggest that you gather your girlfriends soonest you can, catch up, bond and feed off each others’ feminine energies that would sure give you a big boost.
Here are some fun things you can do with your girlfriends while enjoying payment ease with GCash:
1- Restock your kikay kit at The Face Shop
For most girls, makeup is a big part of bonding. Try new lipstick shades and foundation varieties at The Face Shop, where you can find makeup that’s well-suited for Asian skin. GCash payments are accepted at The Face Shop branches in Glorietta 3 in Makati, Market! Market! and BGC in Taguig, TriNoMa in Quezon City, Ayala Cebu, and Abreeza Mall Davao.
2- Get a refreshing facial treatment at Belo
More than just makeup, key to looking great is having good, clear skin. The Belo Medical Group is a go-to for celebrities when it comes to skin care. Schedule a visit with your girlfriends and get star-worthy pampering at Belo branches in Greenbelt, Makati, TriNoMa in Quezon City, Cebu, and Davao.
3- Update your hairstyle at Bench Fix
They say a girl who cuts her hair is about to change her life. Well ain’t that true. Whether you need a life-changing new style or just need a trim, Bench Fix has the service for you. Take your girlfriends on a fun salon day and enjoy worry-free GCash payment at Bench Fix branches in most branches of Ayala, Robinsons and SM malls across the country.
Today’s society is more open to change, may it be to our lifestyle or outward appearance. As social conditions and gender roles change, so is the beauty standard. Gone were the days, when we were shackled to conform to what they set as aesthetically pleasing to the eyes. Change in one’s self is not only for boosting the confidence, it is accepting that we can enhance our awareness to our own needs.
There is a misconception about plastic surgery, people think that it’s only for aesthetic purposes. Plastic surgery is actually a surgical specialty involving the restoration, reconstruction, or alteration of the human body. New Life is not all about aesthetics. They are all about the patient’s desire and motivation to pursue plastic surgery whether it’s for a personal reason or a medical one. New Life also values the patient’s feelings about the changes and how this can improve their quality of life.
In line with this, New Life Aesthetic announced that they are searching for two new Angels, one female and one male who wants to undergo life-changing transformation through surgical and non-surgical procedures.
How can we join and what are the requirements?
Listed down below are the requirements and the steps that you need to do to qualify for the new life angels. The application process will run from July 8-15, 2019.
You must be at least 18 years old, healthy, possess good moral character, and willing to undergo the recommended plastic and cosmetic procedures.
Applicants will be required to make a post on their social media accounts informing their family, friends and followers that they are participating in our “Search for NEWLIFE Angels”.
How is the selection process?
The application closes on July 16 – 30, 2019, then the panel of judges will have 5 days to decide who made it to the top 40 . The judges are composed of one representative from each of New Life’s co-sponsors and three representatives from NEWLIFE.
The announcement of the TOP 40 will be made on August 8, 2019 at 12 noon. The results will be simultaneously published in New LifeAesthetic and their co-sponsors’ social media pages.
The Second Round will officially commence on August 15, 2019. The battle round will be a combination of popularity contest.
What to expect in the battle round?
The Battle Round is designed to get the TOP 40 candidates to compete against each other. Here’s how the battle rounds go:
The top 40 candidates will be invited for a photoshoot between August, 10 – 14, 2019. The pictures taken will be used in the Battle Rounds. Successful candidates, who are unable to attend the photoshoot because of their distance to Manila, may opt to submit their photos through email.
On August 15, 2019 at exactly 12 noon, photos of each of the top 40 candidates will be published in their Facebook page. From then onward, voting kicks off. The photos of the top 40 will be pegged against each other and anyone on Facebook may vote for them.
The number of votes will be computed based on the following “Point Assignment”:
The candidate gets 10 votes for every share made on his/her photo and 7 votes for every comment posted. Emoji reactions will be valued based on the above point assignment.
The result of the vote shall form 70% of the total score. 30% will be coming from the panel of judges. This time, the panel of judges are exclusively from NEWLIFE.
The Battle Round will run from August 15-30, 2019.
When will the winners be revealed?
The winners of the Search for NEWLIFE Angels will be announced on August 31, 2019. The announcement will be made on New Life Aesthetic’s social media accounts.
Transformation
The final step is the documentation of the transformation of their chosen NEWLIFE Angels. Once the ambassador’s transformation is completed, they will be introduced to the public. A video and photoshoot will be arranged before the “Transformed NEWLIFE Angels” are introduced in public through New Life aesthetics website and their social media accounts.
Improvement in external appearance is a big factor in developing one’s self-esteem. New Life doctors will take care of your aesthetic needs and they go by the phrase “Beauty is in the eye of the beholdee and NOT the beholder.

The two-year partnership takes the Dove Self-Esteem Project, the world’s largest provider of self-esteem education, to a scale never-seen-before April 5, 2018 – Dove announces a two-year global partnership with Cartoon Network’s Steven Universe to educate young people on body confidence through the cartoon’s themes of inclusivity and empowerment, world and characters – going directly to them in a medium they know and love, something that has never been done before.
This pioneering collaboration comes from the Dove Self-Esteem Project which has been helping young people build self-esteem and body confidence through educational programmes since 2004. The project is based on the knowledge that over half of girls do not have high body confidence, leading them to avoid spending time with friends and family, put their health at risk and opt-out of important life events. The Dove Self-Esteem Project exists in 140 countries around the world and is committed to reaching 40 million young people by 2020 through its existing educational programmes; and with the help of Steven Universe, will now reach 20 million more.
Using a public health intervention model, the Dove Self-Esteem Project will expand beyond structured workshops delivered by adults, to taking educational content direct to young people on a scale never-seen before. And in the case of the project’s partnership with Cartoon Network, this will be Steven Universe’s young viewers to positively impact their self-esteem and body confidence.
The partnership will come to life in a series of six short animated films directed by Steven Universe creator Rebecca Sugar, the first of which premieres today. Working with the Dove Self-Esteem Project, all content has been carefully co-created and grounded in scientific evidence by body image expert, Dr Phillippa Diedrichs at the Centre for Appearance Research at the University of the West of England in order to make a meaningful impact on a young person’s self-esteem and body confidence.
Later this year, an original song featuring the cast of the show, an accompanying music video, and an educational eBook will also be launched adding to the Dove Self-Esteem Project’s commitment to create a media landscape for young people that is inclusive by acknowledging every person’s uniqueness and representing true diversity.
“Since 2004, through the Dove Self-Esteem Project, we have been providing young people with the tools and resources they need to develop body confidence and self-esteem so they can fully participate in life and reach their full potential,” says Sophie Galvani, Dove Global Vice President. “We are passionate about evolving the types of messages the next generation arereceiving through media, which is why we are working side by side with partners to take the programme to the next level. We are introducing new tools to enable us to reach even more young people with content that not only educates but also entertains. By partnering with Cartoon Network and Rebecca Sugar we are able to create new ways to make a real impact towards our mission of helping young people build positive body confidence and self-esteem.”
Research shows that children’s media can be a powerful source of influence on young viewers’ body image and emotional intelligence, with carefully designed inclusive content creating more positive attitudes and behaviours towards their own health and others.
“Appearance ideals and stereotypes are widespread in children’s media. Studies show that this trend occurs more frequently on screen than in books. Therefore, it is vital to have new content that encourages children to have a positive relationship with the way they look and showcases a diverse and inclusive range of appearances,” states Dr Phillippa Diedrichs, Body Image Expert. “The partnership creates content that tackles topics identified in scientific research as key influences on young people’s body confidence, and delivers it in an engaging and fun way.”
Critically acclaimed, Steven Universe is the first animated series on Cartoon Network to be created by a woman. A global pop culture phenomenon recognized for its overall themes of inclusivity, empathy and relatability, the show is inspired by Rebecca’s friendship and close relationship with her younger brother Steven.
“It has always been important to us that our content resonates with our audience and empowers them,” says Christina Miller, president of Cartoon Network. “This partnership is unprecedented in its scale, reach and ambition to make a difference in kids lives around the world.”
“Cartoons are a powerful medium when it comes to empathy and understanding, which is why my team and I take great care with Steven Universe to reflect real issues that affect our audience,” says Rebecca . “I’m grateful that I will have access to a plethora of research on body image and mental health thanks to this partnership with the Dove Self-Esteem Project. This is an issue I have struggled with personally and I hope this will be a chance to amplify positive messages about self-awareness and acceptance.”
Women today are more united. Several groups now exist in the spirit of camaraderie. No matter what the odds, women go through it all hand in hand. Now its second year, Loreal continues its legacy in empowering women by helping them with starting their own businesses or get hired. Loreal has utilized the power of beauty in more ways than one.
Launched last April 2017, L’Oréal’s Beauty For a Better Life has since completed one full year of training for three batches of beneficiaries. Since its launch, 62 beneficiaries from the Philippines has been given an opportunity to go into jobs and even own businesses in the field of hairdressing.
Led by the L’Oréal Foundation, Beauty For a Better Life is deployed in 27 countries globally and is one of the Foundation’s key programs to empower women in situations of social and economic instability by training them for careers in the beauty sector. For its first run, L’Oréal Philippines, along with its partner organization Philippine Business for Social Progress (PBSP), decided to focus on training women within one barangay to allow for growth within the community and co-empowerment among themselves.
The program was first brought to Brgy. Sto. Niño in Marikina as one of the priority areas for unemployment.
“We believe in the power of beauty to change lives, and Beauty For a Better Life expands the definition of beauty by using it a way to provide skills and livelihood opportunities to those most in need. A renewed sense of self-confidence, diginity and motivation are fundamental changes that we see in our graduates and it is our hope and vision that Beauty For a Better Life empowers these women to gain a better quality of life through increased access to livelihood opportunities, and thereby becoming socially and economically empowered to also serve as beacons of hope for their own families and communities”, shares Carmel Valencia, L’Oréal Philippines Corporate Communication Manager.
To date, 62 individuals have completed the program, 22 of which come from the third batch graduating this April 2018. Each batch of beneficiaries underwent daily classroom sessions in the Barangay Hall for three months wherein they were taught different hairdressing skills such as blow drying, hair coloring, hair cutting, and application of hair treatments – under the tutelage of L’Oréal Philippines trainers. They were also exposed to a one-week internship in L’Oréal’s partner salons across Metro Manila to expose them to actual hairdressing jobs and potentially further their career options.
April 3 signals a new chapter for the program as it celebrates all the beneficiaries from Brgy. Sto. Niño including the latest set of graduates and also gives way for the turning over of the program to a new barangay in Marikina. “It is truly heartwarming to see the hope that the program has brought about to the lives of the women (and men) of Brgy. Sto. Niño. For the next cycle of Beauty For a Better Life, we are hoping that we will also open opportunities to individuals from Brgy. Dela Peña and continue our advocacy of changing lives through beauty,” concludes Ms. Valencia.
The first batch of beneficiaries from Brgy. Dela Peña will begin training under the program on April 4.
“I have no special talent. I am only passionately curious,” said Albert Einstein. The same can be said about Aiza Diuco, founder and CEO of Age Defying Solutions. Not that she has no special
talent, far from it, but that she is and has always been passionately curious. As a young girl, Ms. Diuco excelled in school, thanks to her mother who was a school teacher.“In everything I do, even with time management, how I take care of my things, or my company, it all boils down to self-discipline. It really has to start from you.” This brand of discipline sure paid off for Ms. Diuco graduated from Miriam College in the top 10% of the graduating class, with a degree in International Studies. As a graduate student at U.P. Diliman, she was a consistent university scholar with a QPA of 1.25 and she finished he masters in just 2 years.
Ms. Diuco, however, did not always want to become an entrepreneur. As a child, she wanted a career in the medical field. “I come from a family of entrepreneurs. All my brothers are entrepreneurs and we owe it all to our dad who’s a very good provider.” She went on to recount how her father had given her brothers the capital for their respective businesses.
Ms. Diuco, however, worked for other companies before working for her father. In Sara Lee Philippines, she worked as a sales training supervisor. She eventually joined her father and
worked in his company for ten years. When asked how she felt when she left the company, she said, “Actually it was difficult for me. I love my dad, I love our company. It’s a family corporation.”
She proudly told me that Glupa is her baby, and that everything about it was personally researched by her. Theirs is the only company that has the patent for the glutathione and papaya combination.
Ms. Diuco’s goal is not to be the wealthiest and most successful entrepreneur. Her son, whom she considers her inspiration, motivates her to always strive to do better. “More than providing
for my son, I also want him to be proud of me as a mother.” She has long been an advocate of women empowerment and a strong believer in education as an effective means of improving one’s life and as a solution to poverty eradication.

Whitening products are all around. After all, its difficult to maintain a light complexion in a tropical country. Scars appear darker and are harder to get rid of. Also, consumers are now conscious about the contents of the products namely being aware of the preservative Parabens which is considered to be harmful.
Morrison Elbow & Knee Collagen Whitening Lotion might just be the answer, I thought to myself. Getting good reviews online prompted me to try it out. I don’t rely on other people’s opinions or experience until I use it myself. It’s probably worth a shot.
The package comes in a White easy-squeeze 50ml bottle. The scent of the product is pleasing and I actually enjoyed it.
I applied it liberally in the hopes that I get the result as soon as possible. Like most users, I didn’t get a lighter skin in the first or second application. However, gradual results were noticeable as I finished consuming the bottle. The lotion was applied daily on my knees and elbows. It was a shade lighter and I still use it to maintain the results. By the way, micropeeling is expected.
I felt moisturized the entire day and my skin was softer. Scrubbing the target parts were also done as I got curious in speeding up the process. My skin was noticeably smoother and I loved the smell.
To achieve the desired result, daily application is advised. The 50ml bottle is priced at P249 and it’s worth every penny.
