Most of us discovered the joy and convenience of shopping online during the past year. But are you truly maximizing your online shopping experience? Online shopping is now an indispensable part of our daily lives, and we owe it to ourselves to develop a better understanding of online shopping platforms and services. Our hard-earned money is at stake, after all!
However, navigating e-commerce platforms and services can get overwhelming. To guide you on your journey to becoming a smarter shopper, Shopee Cares PH, Shopee’s new dedicated customer service platform, shares tips regarding common issues online shoppers deal with, in areas such as logistics, safety, and authenticity:
1. Do due diligence to avoid shopping mishaps
Before you click add to cart, remember to always double or even triple-check if the item or seller has good reviews and ratings. Trust your gut and keep reading if you feel like the reviews are too good to be true. You do not want to waste your hard-earned money on faulty products or shady sellers. For guaranteed safe and hassle-free shopping, patronize Shopee Mall official stores where products are 100% authentic, with 7-day free returns and free shipping (with minimum spend).
2. Always conduct transactions in-app
Stay alert and protect yourself from potential scams! Report messages that request personal information such as your Facebook page and email address, or ones that redirect you to another website to complete the purchase. Staying in-app keeps you protected from any fraudulent transactions.
3. Do not forget to protect your personal data
Excited to open that much-awaited package? Before you enjoy your purchase, remember to properly discard the shipping label, which contains your personal information. Erase any sensitive info with a permanent marker, or, even better, shred it. Otherwise, your details could end up in the wrong hands.
4. Check your cash-on-delivery (COD) order’s tracking number
Before you pay for that COD order, double check if your order’s tracking number matches the one on the parcel. Do not accept or pay for the order if the numbers don’t match. If you live with family members or roommates, make it a habit to inform them of any pending deliveries as well.
5. Reach out to Shopee Cares PH for a smooth shopping experience
Got questions about vouchers? Looking for a certain item you just cannot place? Or maybe need help tracking your order? For seamless customer service, head on over to Shopee Cares PH, Shopee Philippines’ dedicated customer service platform, to voice your concerns.

Shopee, the leading e-commerce platform in Southeast Asia and Taiwan, ranks 5th on market research firm YouGov’s Most Recommended Brands 2021 List in the Philippines. The rankings are based on YouGov BrandIndex’s positive recommendation score, which measures the percentage of a brand’s customers who recommend it to a friend or colleague. The latest rankings show the brands with the highest average recommended score from June 2020 to May 2021. Shopee also takes the top spot in the YouGov Recommend Top Improvers 2021 in the Philippines, going up from 71.9 in the previous year to 79.5.
Germaine Reyes, President, and CEO of Synergy Market Research + Strategic Consultancy, YouGov’s affiliate partner in the Philippines, said, “Retail and fast-moving brands are showing their domination in this year’s YouGov Recommend Rankings in the Philippines. Notably, three out of the top ten are e-commerce platforms, most likely due to the current pandemic. Online shopping habits continue to surge during the restrictions and lockdowns all over the world, and Filipinos are right on the trend.”
Shopee also secured the 7th spot in YouGov’s Best Brands 2020 List in the Philippine, and was named the top improver going up from 32.0 points in 2019 to 39.9 points the following year.
This year, Shopee launched different initiatives for customers, brands, and sellers on the platform to support their online growth and enhance their overall shopping experience. To equip and support its sellers, Shopee launched Tatak Pinoy and Shopee University Summit to support community-based businesses and taught aspiring digital entrepreneurs everything they need to know about e-commerce, respectively. In addition, Shopee also launched programs for its ever-growing customer base. One is the Shopee Loyalty Program, a brand new in-app program that delivers a more rewarding shopping experience for users last February, and the Shopee Mall Brand Memberships Program, an initiative that helps brands grow customer loyalty and retention.
Martin Yu, Director at Shopee Philippines, said, “Shopee is proud to be included in YouGov’s list of the most recommended and improved brands this 2021. As times and circumstances change, we will continue to pursue excellence and improve our services to better cater to the needs and wants of our customers, brand partners, and sellers. This recognition is a product of our various initiatives and is a testament to the growing level of trust and confidence people have in Shopee. E-commerce has become an integral part of the lives of Filipinos, and we aim to continuously step up to provide our users with an easy, secure, and engaging shopping experience.”
Danone, a leading multi-local food and beverage company building on health-focused and fast-growing categories, and Shopee, a leading e-commerce platform in Southeast Asia and Taiwan, launches the first Regional Brand Day, ‘Our Health, My Choice’ on Shopee Mall to provide consumers in the region access to Danone’s full Specialized Nutrition (SN) portfolio for the whole family. The SN portfolio includes core milk products for children and convenient cereal bars for pregnant women and lactating mothers, and adult nutrition for healthy aging. With more people going online to shop for health products, the collaboration aims to support more families to make informed nutrition choices and discover products that support their health and nutrition needs.
In line with its mission to bring health through food to as many people as possible, Danone ensures that its product portfolio provides the right nutrition across age groups with scientifically proven nutrients. In the Philippines, malnutrition remains one of the leading causes of child deaths. According to a UNICEF report in 2014, 95 Filipino children die from malnutrition every day while 27 out of 1,000 children do not get past their fifth birthday. A third of Filipino children are stunted, or too short for their age—causing them to fail to grow and develop to full potential. A 2019 study by the Food and Nutrition Research Institute (FNRI) stated that the current chronic malnutrition rate among Filipino children aged 0 to 2 is now at 26.2 percent, the highest in 10 years.
Deborah Chong, Head of E-commerce, Danone Specialized Nutrition Global, said, “We have witnessed incredible growth of our business online, including a 20 times growth across Southeast Asia during the Shopee 12.12 Birthday Sale last year. With more people turning to e-commerce platforms like Shopee to seek convenient and reliable product options, we believe this collaboration will further scale our presence in the region. Prioritizing consumers’ health is crucial for us and we believe this Regional Brand Day which focuses on our “Our Health, My Choice” theme, lets us show our care and appreciation for our customers by providing convenient access to products that support their health and nutrition needs.”
Maxime Lafarge, Country Manager, Danone Nutricia Philippines, added, “Danone is proud to partner with Shopee to fulfill our mission of making good nutritional choices accessible for more health-conscious consumers. We believe that our portfolio can cater to the specific nutrition needs of all consumers and encourage the consumption of essential macro and micronutrients for a well-balanced, healthy diet. That’s why we are very excited to leverage Shopee’s wide reach and customer engagement tools such as Brand Membership to better connect with customers and provide them greater value all year round. They can also enjoy savings and rewards by signing up for the free membership on our official stores.”
Martin Yu, Director at Shopee Philippines, shared, “With a 2.5 times growth in viewership compared to last year, live streaming is becoming a key part of the online shopping experience in our region. It has also grown to become an effective way for brands to acquire and connect with shoppers, showcase their products and prompt users to make purchases on the spot. We’re excited to see more brands such as Danone enrich the shopping experience by integrating entertainment and educational content into their campaigns.”

Today, more Filipinos use alternative payment methods such as online banking and mobile wallets in their everyday lives. With this rising new trend, brands like SEAOIL, Novo Department Store, Potato Corner, and many others partnered with ShopeePay, Shopee’s mobile wallet, to seamlessly adapt to the change to provide better service to their customers.
About 39 million people make digitally-enabled payment transactions globally, and in the Philippines, about 30 percent of Filipinos aged 16-64 are now using mobile payment services each month. With the expected increase in digital payments worldwide in the coming years, local brands share how they’re maximizing mobile wallets like ShopeePay to adapt to the current trend.
SEAOIL
Filipino-owned fuel company SEAOIL continued operations despite a significant decrease in transactions during the pandemic. They kept most of their stations open, doing their part in ensuring that essential workers reach the destinations where they are needed. They also implemented safety protocols immediately to keep their customers safe. They improved the variety of contactless payment options at their stations as these became a crucial safety measure to protect both frontliners and customers amidst the pandemic.
Through their partnership with ShopeePay, SEAOIL increased its digital online presence and successfully captured the consistently growing active users on ShopeePay. The partnership also boosted transactions at their gas stations through promos that allowed users to redeem discounts and coins cashback. Through ShopeePay, they reached out to more consumers and provided greater rewards and a safer option to gas up.
Jose Jaime V. Dela Fuente, Vice President for Corporate and Consumer Marketing at SEAOIL, said, “We commend ShopeePay for its initiatives to encourage Filipino motorists like SEAOIL customers to shift to contactless payment – the safer way to pay. Our partnership with Shopee is in line with our #FuelPHtoRecovery campaign, which aims to help establish a better new normal for our stakeholders, mainly by providing opportunities to save on fuel expenses while keeping them protected against COVID-19. We look forward to more co-marketing initiatives with ShopeePay to maximize benefits for our customers.”
Potato Corner
Potato Corner, a known brand for flavored fries, faced plenty of difficulties last year but found a way to bounce back. As most stores open for business, they welcomed different methods to distribute their products and partnered with mobile wallets such as ShopeePay to offer users an alternative payment method to help lessen direct contact between staff and customers. With fewer movement restrictions now, the number of transactions in their stores has since increased. This contributed a lot to the brand as it rebounds from the closure of some stores due to quarantine.
Jen Merana, Business Channel Officer at Potato Corner, said, “At Potato Corner, we strive to explore every possible strategy to keep the business going and growing. Adapting to the current digital trends shows our commitment to serve our customers and prioritize their safety and our employees. ShopeePay provided Potato Corner a great opportunity to promote the brand during this time, and we are hopeful that it will help us recover from the repercussions of the pandemic.”
Novo Department Store
Like most business establishments, Novo Department Store closed its stores and halted operations when the government implemented the Enhance Community Quarantine (ECQ). Despite the setback, they adapted to the circumstances and created effective plans to benefit their staff and customers. In the middle of the pandemic last year, they joined Shopee to reach their loyal customers, including new customers who were at home.
With a new perspective combined with proven strategies from the past, they embraced digital payments as a step towards innovation. Even with various digital payment platforms in the market, Novo Department Store prefers ShopeePay as it has the same values and vision as their company – to better Filipino’s lives.
Janry Cua, Marketing Manager at Novo Department Store, said, “We are excited for this new partnership with ShopeePay, and we look forward to what they have in store for us. ShopeePay has made our customers’ shopping experience in Novo easier, safer, and more convenient. ShopeePay has provided us a platform and visibility for showcasing our products which can improve and better the lives of Filipino families nationwide.”
Martin Yu, Director at Shopee Philippines, said, “ShopeePay is pleased to partner with SEAOIL, Novo Department Store, and Potato Corner to provide both users and brands with an easy payment alternative. With the nation pushing for a cashless, contactless society, we aim to collaborate with more brands to give the local community a seamless and secure online payment experience through ShopeePay.”

One of the trickier aspects of parenting is preparing meals, and now that the whole family spends more time at home, the task has become even more challenging for moms. Finding the time to come up with recipes that are both balanced and yummy can pose quite the dilemma for busy moms—plus, kids can be finicky.
Need inspo for coming up with easy, nutritious, and kid-approved meals? Check out mommy bloggers Michelle Estranero, Lhyzie Bongon, and Kaye Figuracion’s helpful tips, go-to recipes, and product recos available on Shopee, just in time for Nutrition Month. Instead of ordering takeout for dinner tonight, try whipping up these easy recipes with your kids so you can get them to enjoy balanced, home cooked food!
Michelle Estranero of Rockstarmomma
Michelle Estranero, the woman behind lifestyle blog Rockstarmomma, is also a working mother of two. As a parent who juggles creating content, working, housekeeping, and taking care of her toddler and teenager, Michelle relies on two key tips to make healthy cooking easier. “First, stock up on nutrition-packed foods that will stay fresh for a week or longer. Then limit purchases of tempting foods like chips, cookies, sodas, and ice cream. They are high in empty calories and run up your grocery bill,” she shares.
Michelle’s no-fail recipe is no-bake baked mac and cheese. Busy moms will find this quick and easy to make. Throw in a few healthy modifications, such as substituting hotdogs with chicken sausage, using organic whole wheat elbow macaroni, or going for lactose-free cheese, and you’re good to go.

Lhyzie Bongon of Life With Lhyzie
Every day, single mom Lhyzie Bongon of Life with Lhyzie prepares meals for her seven-year-old daughter and their extended family. Since she cooks for such a huge household, one of Lhyzie’s priorities is to ensure that every dietary requirement is accommodated, especially during the pandemic. “Food intake depends on how you live and how it affects your current health status.
My fellow moms can create a foundation for a healthy lifestyle by choosing organic vegetables and fruits and avoiding processed foods and artificial ingredients.”
Lhyzie’s signature healthy recipe is her chicken and sotanghon soup. It comes packed with protein thanks to the chicken breast, contains plenty of vegetables, and soothes the soul on rainy days.

Kaye Figuracion of K Figuracion
Aside from parenting an eleven-year-old and a two-year-old, Kaye Figuracion has her hands full with homemaking, running the family business, and creating content for her blog, K Figuracion.
With such a packed daily schedule, Kaye admits that meal prep can be tough. To elevate her dishes, she looks for inspiration. “I watch Youtube tutorials so I have a variety of meals to serve.
I just tweak recipes based on our children’s preferences. I also joined an online mom group that shares healthy cooking ideas, techniques, and ingredients to make veggie dishes more delectable for kids.”
Kaye’s Pan-Fried Cheesy Salmon is popular among her kids for its rich, flavorful taste. Even better, it contains plenty of Omega-3 fatty acids and protein! For a healthier option, you can lessen the cheese, depending on your children’s preferences and nutritional needs.

Like plenty of Filipino moms, Michelle, Lhyzie, and Kaye shop online for groceries, depending on Shopee’s convenience, safety, variety, and rewards. To maximize the experience, Michelle advises other moms, “Join the Shopee Mom’s Club to enjoy free shipping vouchers monthly and exclusive brand vouchers for everyday essentials. You can also connect and learn from other moms via the Shopee Moms Viber Community.”
Meanwhile, Lhyzie weighs each product carefully in the balance before making a decision. “Keep an eye on all product offerings. Visit Shopee Mall for more deals, and make sure to compare brands, prices, and functions. Don’t forget to check the reviews and comments!”
For Kaye, it’s important to maximize the app’s features. “I usually go straight to the sale, flash deals, or cashback tabs to find the best deals of the day. I also follow my favorite stores and turn on notifications to get first dibs on promos and new arrivals.”

2 million worth of housing materials and construction supplies were donated by Japanese global apparel retailer, UNIQLO, through SM Foundation Incorporated to communities from Obando to San Miguel, Bulacan
Being one of the of the hardest hit provinces during typhoon season, many communities in low-lying areas in Bulacan are often submerged in floods; prompting families to seek temporary roof in evacuation centers or public disaster shelters.
With this, the housing materials and construction supplies donated by Uniqlo will not only support the repair, rebuilding, and new construction of home for families displaced by the recent calamities like Ulysses but will also help in the disaster preparedness as typhoon season peaks in the Philippines.
“Malaking bagay po (donation) kasi maitatayo po yung nasira na bahay namin nung Ulysses” says Rolando Santos, a beneficiary from Tabing Ilog in Marilao. Lorena Dauba from Lambakin, Marilao also added “Malaking tulong po dahil may pandagdag na materyales na yero, plywood sa pagawa ng bahay lalo na at padating ang tag-ulan”.
As recommended by the Provincial Social Welfare and Development Office, each of the 58 communities in Bulacan composed of 200 families will received Php.10,000 worth of construction materials such as galvanized iron sheets, roofing and wood nails, sealants, sealant guns, marine plywood and lumber.
Through SM City Marilao, donations were brought to families living in San Pascual in Obando, San Jose in Paombong, San Pedro and Fatima V in San Jose Del Monte and Matungao, San Nicolas and Taliptip in Bulakan, Bulakan. Beneficiaries also include families in Banga and Calvario in Meycauayan and Sta. Rosa, Tabing Ilog and Lambakin in Marilao.
Rounds of donation, on the other hand, were conducted by SM City Baliwag in communities like Sta. Cruz, Laog, Sto. Cristo in Angat, Sabang, Bagong Nayon, San Jose and Poblacion in Baliwag, Pulong Sampalok, Kalawakan, Sapang Bulak and Camachile in DRT, Poblacion, Matictic and Baraka in Norzagaray, San Juan and Maasim in San Ildelfonso and Santa Rita Matanda, Tartaro, San Vicente, Sta. Ines, Sta. Lucia, Santa Rita Bata, Poblacion, Bagbaguin and Sta. Clara in San Miguel.
Chosen beneficiaries in Baliwag were identified as the most affected families, with houses that are still damaged at present. “Mayroon tayong partial damage na 2,500 at may more or less 900 na totally damage last year” said Baliwag MSWDO Department Head Josephine Lopez.
In close coordination with the Local Government Units of the recipient towns, families from Poblacion, Cambaog and Catacte in Bustos, Sumapang Bata, Lugam, Masile, Dakila, Niugan, Santor, Tikay and Balite in Malolos, Dampol 2nd in Pulilan and Bagbaguin and Sta. Clara in Sta Maria likewise received donations from Uniqlo through SM Center Pulilan.
“Pauna na po ang aming taos pusong pasasalamat sa inyong pagsuporta” shares Provincial Social Welfare and Development Office head Rowena Tiongson. “Nawa po ay mas marami pa tayong Bulakenyong matulungan sa naapektuhan ng mga nagdaang kalamidad lalo na po ng Bagyong Ulysses” Ms. Tiongson added.
Uniqlo’s housing materials and construction supplies donation is part of the relief and recovery efforts made through its parent company- SM Group. As recalled, the global fashion brand donated over 1 million USD in aid last quarter of 2020. Through SM Foundation Inc, an entity that manages the CSR activities of SM Group, donations were mobilized to affected communities around the Philippines to provide emergency food supplies and rebuild flooded housing, as well as build preventative infrastructure in areas susceptible to flooding.
