The Gardening Fair advocates to facilitate entrepreneurial opportunities for MSMEs who are affected by the pandemic. This campaign is rolled out to help shoppers find, discover, and support MSMEs and local businesses especially in the province.

Amway Philippines, together with long-time CSR partner Department of Education (DepEd), has donated used laptops to public schools to enable continuous learning amid the pandemic. The partners are also launching EaseKul (pronounced as “iskul”) – a project that will provide trainings on health, beauty, and agriculture to help augment the incomes of displaced parents and teachers in these trying times.
As classes resume and shift to digital platforms in the middle of a health pandemic, the direct selling company and DepEd started the Oplan Balik-Skwela project: kicking off with a donation of laptops to 10 public schools last August 17, 2020. During the turnover, several school representatives received the laptops, remarking on how the donation will be of much help. “Simula po nung dumating ako sa school, wala pa rin silang laptop,” Roger Malawit, Principal of Magumbali Elementary School North District in Pampanga, gratefully expressed. (Ever since I started teaching in the school, they had no laptops.) Aside from Pampanga, other areas selected for the donation include Malolos, Laguna, Rizal, Cavite, and Mandaluyong.
“Meanwhile, EaseKul is part of DepEd’s Learning Continuity Program (LCP) and hopes to extend learning opportunities to stay-at-home moms and dads and displaced teachers so they can gain new skills to help augment their income,” says Leni Olmedo, Country Manager of Amway Philippines. “We’ve always offered trainings on agri-farming, livelihood, beauty, and health and wellness among our direct sellers or Amway Business Owners (ABOs) to help build their skill sets. Now, we are extending those training modules to others, but we have modified them to better fit our new audience.”
Donation turnover in Amway’s office attended by DepEd officials Usec. Tonisito Umali, Esq., Partnership Director Edel Carag, and Partnership Officer Carol Labrague, and Amway representatives: Country Manager Leni Olmedo, CSR Lead Owen Rea, NCR Volunteer Team Leader Michael Padre, HR Manager JM Federico, Sales Manager Edmund Guinto, and Marketing Manager Christine Valmonte
DepEd’s LCP includes webinars that are held via Facebook Live. While most of these are on disaster risk management, adjusting to the new normal, and addressing psychological needs, EaseKul is changing the game by offering skills-based trainings that parents and teachers alike can use in their daily lives and to find additional sources of revenue especially during this crisis.
“Maski ganito na ang ating sitwasyon, kami ay nananalig na magagawa parin namin [i-angat ang kalidad ng edukasyon para sa lahat] sa tamang pakikipagugnayan sa aming mga partners katulad ng Amway Philippines,” Usec. Tonisito M.C. Umali Esq., Undersecretary for External Partnerships, stated during the laptop donation turnover.
(Despite the current situation, we have hope that we’ll be able to improve the quality of education for all with the help of partners like Amway Philippines.)
EaseKul will start late October, with over 300 participants to be identified by DepEd and issued a memorandum regarding the training.
[October 8, 2020] OPM giants Yeng Constantino and Erik Santos will guest on the third episode of Rated Global Pinoy, an online series presented by PLDT Global Corporation’s Free Bee.

The internationally recognized ad-sponsored VoIP solution is available in over 180 countries. Jacobs Engineering has donated USD10,000 to KEITECH Educational Foundation to help fund its student-trainees’ tuition and fees. KEITECH is a technical-vocational school established in 2009 by geothermal leader Energy Development Corporation (EDC) in partnership with the local government of Kananga in Leyte and the Technical Education and Skills Development Authority (TESDA). It aims to address the high poverty incidence and unemployment rate in the municipality by enabling qualified youth to acquire top skills that are locally and globally in-demand.
Jacobs Engineering previously played a pivotal role in helping EDC restore and build a better facility when the geothermal company’s Mahanagdong B power plant in Leyte was badly hit by a 6.5-magnitude earthquake in 2017. “The successful Mahanagdong project delivery was underpinned by the positive working relationship between the two companies with shared safety and sustainability values and a commitment to work towards a zero-carbon future. We are pleased to partner with EDC, which is one of the world leaders in geothermal energy,” said Aaron Hochwimmer, Jacobs Engineering’s Director of Operations–Power.
“Our team was delighted to recognize KEITECH and to leave an enduring legacy with the community. The fundamental lessons on values that KEITECH teaches are also fundamentals for us in Jacobs and we think that they were instrumental to the success of our project with EDC,” he added.
KEITECH’s 10-month training program is tailor-fit to the most in-demand jobs today in construction, metals and engineering, and hotel and restaurant services. Each KEITECH student receives a full scholarship including uniforms, shoes, safety gears, and school supplies, and is given accommodations and meals for the duration of their training. All graduates have achieved a 100% passing rate in TESDA’s National Certification exam.
“We express our deepest gratitude to Jacobs Engineering Group not only for their generous donation to KEITECH but more importantly, for being EDC’s partner that seeks to elevate its beneficiaries,” said James Arnold Villaroman, former business unit head of EDC’s Leyte Geothermal Facility and current head of the company’s Long-term Strategy Group.
“The financial assistance that Jacobs Engineering has provided to the student trainees of KEITECH is another proof of how it strives to ignite economic prosperity among impoverished communities through education, which we in EDC also believe is the greatest equalizer. As EDC and the rest of the Lopez group embark on our new chosen path of fostering collaborative pathways for a decarbonized and regenerative future, we are honored to have like-minded partners like Jacobs,” Villaroman added.
EDC’s Leyte geothermal facility has been supplying power to the province of Leyte and the rest of the Visayas region for almost 40 years. The company’s over 1,205-megawatt total installed geothermal capacity accounts for 62% of the country’s generated renewable energy and is responsible for putting EDC and the Philippines on the map as the world’s third largest geothermal producer. ###
Erwin Magallanes, KEITECH administrator and EDC head of corporate social responsibility in Leyte, displays a certificate of donation for the USD 10,000 donation from Jacobs Engineering represented by Director of Operations–Power Aaron Hochwimmer during a virtual turnover ceremony.
KEITECH is a technical-vocational school established by Energy Development Corporation (EDC) in partnership with the local government of Kananga in Leyte and the Technical Education and Skills Development Authority (TESDA), which aims to address poverty and unemployment by enabling qualified youth to acquire skills for locally and globally in-demand jobs in construction, metals and engineering, and hotel and restaurant services.
Representatives of Energy Development Corporation (EDC) and Department of Health–Center for Health and Development (DOH–CHD) Bicol in a virtual memorandum of agreement signing ceremony for the former’s P4.2-million donation to fund the expansion and refurbishment of the health center’s building and COVID-19 testing laboratory.
As of September, more than 1,700 COVID-19 cases were reported in the Bicol region, according to Department of Health–Center for Health and Development (DOH–CHD) Bicol Regional Director Dr. Ernie D. Vera. The lack of proper equipment and facilities has affected the province’s efforts to control the spread of the virus.
With that, Lopez-led Energy Development Corporation (EDC) refocused its COVID-19 resiliency efforts in its host communities in Bicol to initiatives that will enhance local mass testing capabilities. Through a partnership with the DOH–CHD Bicol, EDC donated P4.2 million to fund the expansion and refurbishment of the health center’s building and COVID-19 testing laboratory, which is one of only two in the Bicol region accredited by the Research Institute for Tropical Medicine (RITM).
The partnership between EDC and DOH–CHD Bicol was formalized with a virtual signing ceremony of the Memorandum of Agreement and Deed of Donation between DOH–CHD Bicol led by Dr. Vera, Assistant Regional Director Ferchito Avelino, Chief of the Management Support Division Norberto Balane Jr., and Cluster Head for Infectious and Communicable Disease Dr. Jannish Alcala Arellano; and EDC led by Senior Vice President and OIC of Facilities, Operations and Maintenance Group Engr. Liberato S. Virata, Assistant Vice President and Corporate Support Functions Head Regina Victoria J. Pascua, Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) and Public Relations Head Atty. Allan V. Barcena, Bacon–Manito (BacMan) Geothermal Facility Head Engr. Marcel Rosario; and BacMan CSR Head Eduardo Jimenez.
“EDC puts a great premium on community development and resiliency. I have seen what we can accomplish by working hand in hand with the local government and I look forward to the beginning of a more dynamic partnership with DOH and other key agencies in ensuring that the people are healthy and safe,” said Virata.
“We believe this partnership will be a best practice for us in government. We are the first regional agency that partnered with a private organization, a power company. It is an honor for us to have EDC as a partner,” said Dr. Vera.
The expansion and refurbishment of the DOH laboratories will ramp up the region’s testing capabilities and help them gather the necessary information to find ways to further flatten the curve and manage the pandemic in the area.
EDC operates the 140MW BacMan Geothermal Project that supplies clean and reliable power to the Luzon grid. It is a global pioneer in the geothermal energy industry and the country’s largest vertically integrated geothermal developer, supplying 1,457.8MW of clean and renewable energy to the Philippines. ###

Tanauan, Batangas—October 06,2020— Watching movies where the protagonist hops on a motorcycle leading to an epic chase brings a feeling of joy and excitement that you know only a motorbike can give you. You don’t only see it in movies, but also in your daily commute as motorcycles buzz around traffic getting ahead of other vehicles.
You want to feel that rush and freedom you decided to get a motorcycle for yourself and experience the joy of mobility that motorcycles bring to their riders. You strapped up and hit the road as you got yourself a new bike, but only to realize you find it challenging to ride, and your body starts to ache.
Little did you know that the motorcycle you got yourself was not the perfect match for you since it was too fast and powerful for you to balance and stop, and it was giving you a crooked posture making it impossible for you to use long-term. Honda Philippines Inc. (HPI), the No.1 motorcycle manufacturer in the country, gave some tips[1] on what aspects of a motorcycle would make your motorcycle experience more comfortable.
Anti-lock Braking System (ABS)
Speed can be attractive, especially when arriving at destinations on time, but it has nothing to do with the motorcycle’s reliability to beat traffic. The size and maneuverability of motorcycles are enough to help you craftily beat traffic and arrive at your destination without stress. Focusing too much on speed can be a bad thing or lead to unwanted road accidents.
ABS will be valuable to stay safe and ride confidently on the road because it will keep the tires and brakes from locking and skidding if you brake too hard. You’ll be more likely to over-apply the brakes than worry about not using them enough when you are in a panic situation or riding too fast for your own riding ability.
Smart Key with Anti-Theft Alarm
Motorcycle theft will most likely be one of the biggest worries any rider can have when they are out riding. You can have numerous ways to protect your motorcycle from theft, like using chains to secure the wheels or attaching a disc lock on the front brake disc to lock brake and throttle controls.
Bringing these items, however, can be a burden to riders needing to lighten the load they carry each day. Installing smart key and anti-theft features on your motorcycle can increase the security of the motorcycle at the same time remove the burden of bringing additional load on your journey.
Seat Height
One thing to keep in mind is the seat height and how it impacts your posture. When you reach a point where you need to stop and put a foot or both feet down, the seat height will need to be high enough for your legs to reach the ground and help you balance the motorcycle. A seat that’s too high will cause your ride to lean, which can be difficult for a long time.
Handlebar Height
Like seat height, handlebar height affects your posture, which in turn, affects your comfort level while you ride. You need to be able to reach the hand controls easily when seated on the motorcycle. You shouldn’t have to reach nor lean too far to use the controls. Your elbows should be slightly bent when you sit on the motorcycle and reach for the controls, which will allow you to stay comfortable and alert as you ride.
Never Forget Your Road Partner
A fantastic motorcycle ride will always be unforgettable experience, and like many owners, you would also want your motorcycle to be incredibly reliable. HPI heeded this call and provided riders with an incredibly stylish and innovative motorcycle, The All-New AirBlade150.
The All-New AirBlade150 is a stylish motorcycle that boasts of its powerful 150cc SOHC liquid-cooled engine for prime acceleration superiority in stop-and-go situations.
The All-New AirBlade150 also has Anti-lock Braking System (ABS) which prevent wheels from locking up, All-LED Lighting System including headlight, position light and tail light for excellent road illumination, and Smart Key with Answer Back System & Anti-Theft Alarm.
It also includes a spacious 22.7L Utility Box that can accommodate helmet with enough room for personal belongings with a Power Socket and LED Lamp inside. It also has a Digital Meter Panel that keeps track of your riding with an easy-to-read display system, Park Brake Lock that gives added safety and convenience when on a standstill, and it has a fuel efficiency rating of 47 kilometers per liter.
The All-New AirBlade150 comes in three awesome colors: Matte Galaxy Black Metallic, Candy Caribbean Blue Sea, and Candy Ross Red. It is available at all of Honda’s dealerships with a suggested retail price of PHP109,000.
There is nothing to fear when entering into the new adventure of riding, especially with HPI’s The All-New AirBlade150 being only one of its variety of motorcycles that’s in line with their “ONE DREAM” campaign, which aims to fulfill the dreams of Filipino riders through the joy of mobility.

MANILA, OCTOBER 6, 2020 – Shopee, the leading e-commerce platform in Southeast Asia and Taiwan, continues its strong support for brands with the 10.10 Brands Festival. As more businesses explore the potential of e-commerce during the pandemic, Shopee is committed to providing the optimal environment to help brands of all sizes launch, scale, and succeed online.
Three leading brands share how they utilize Shopee’s robust suite of marketing and operational solutions, including in-app features and big campaigns to accelerate their business growth online.
Unilever realized the potential of Shopee’s in-app features with its Beauty That Cares Campaign last August. Through ShopeeLive, Unilever spread awareness for its advocacy to help small and local businesses affected by the pandemic. Unilever also uses other Shopee in-app features like Flash Deals and marketing solutions to reach a wider audience and build a seamless and shopping experience for their consumers.
Jackie Mañago, Digital Commerce Marketing Manager at Unilever, said, “With the recent health crisis, we saw how consumer priorities have shifted and had to re-think the brand experience and find new ways to engage consumers. Thanks to our solid partnership with Shopee, we quickly adapted, strengthened our presence, and continuously served our shoppers amidst the pandemic.”
Despite the limitation of selling channels during the pandemic, Realme routed its focus on e-commerce and gave more importance to offering affordable devices for communication, e-schooling, and work at home with Shopee. Realme was also able to amplify its exposure and increase its sales by using Shopee’s marketing services like ShopeeLive, banners, and campaigns.
Eason de Guzman, Marketing Lead at Realme Philippines, said, “Through ShopeeLive, banners, and the famous Gadget Zone, we have been able to maximize our exposure and provide the best offers in our exclusive launches. Their platform creates a positive and inviting atmosphere, encouraging brands to participate in their campaigns. Since our partnership with Shopee began, we have seen stronger sales, whether it’s a launch or sustaining.”
Since the start of the quarantine period last March, Alaska has been working closely with Shopee to boost their brand presence online. Alaska took advantage of Shopee’s highly visible in-app spots such as the flash deals section, marketing tools, and big campaigns to promote their products. With Shopee, Alaska saw 10x growth compared to last year.
Marx Benedict So, Digital E-Commerce Manager for Alaska Milk Corporation, said, “Data and media are the lifelines of e-commerce. Thanks to Shopee, we can check which of our ads and products perform well using the marketing tool. Segment buys also play a crucial role, especially if there will be an upcoming campaign as these can increase awareness and convert consumers who are not yet exposed to the brand.”
Martin Yu, Associate Director at Shopee Philippines, said, “At Shopee, brands form the backbone of our business. We have built a strong record of helping brands overcome business challenges and shift to online seamlessly with our strong ecosystem of solutions. We launched the 10.10 Brands Festival, the region’s biggest online shopping event for brands, to provide brands the needed visibility to further scale their business online. We have also expanded our offerings to help our brand partners find success online, and we will continue to do so to support and empower brands to capture immense growth opportunities in the Philippines.”
Shopee 10.10 Brands Festival
