Marikina is a haven for food lovers as the presence of food parks around the city increased. So if you live around Marikina, you can’t miss this #Foodtrip as it has a huge tree in the middle and a colorful sign.

Ambiance
I get a romantic and chill vibe on this food park with its maze like cobbled stone pathway to the instagrammable wall art. Perfect for barkada hangouts or a quick romantic dinner as the park itself isn’t that crowded. The rain drizzled when we sat down near the first stall. Good thing this food park has large umbrellas set up on every table .

Food
Sonyarita
The original name seemed to lack appeal, thus, they made it simpler. Sonyarita is from Sonya, which is name of the owner’s wife merged with senyorita. It’s the couple’s first try in the food business and so far, so good. Just like every budding entrepreneur, they strive to give their best for their first try. They do not compromise on their ingredients and food quality.
Pan grilled beef
Flavorful and juicy! Their home-made gravy complemented the taste of the beef.
Slicing was easy as it was tender. Served with a cute-sized container of garlic rice which doesn’t look like it’s going to be enough for your appetite once you start digging in.
Canadian bacon
This type of bacon is much leaner compared to the American counterpart and is rounded rather than the usual strips. I never knew the difference until I tried it. It tasted a bit like ham and is great for any time of the day.
Spam Fries
There’s a reason spam is a cultural icon. It’s so popular in Hawaii, even Mcdonald’s in Hawaii features Spam menu items. You can eat it right out of the can and in this case, the Spam Fries are actually served in a Spam can. The taste was light, enough saltiness to make you consume another serving or increase your appetite for a burger.
Boodle Platter
A great selection of appetizers: Mozarella pops, Spam sticks, and Cheddar cheese fries. Cheddar is the most popular kind of cheese in the UK and why should it not? It makes everything better that’s why we put it on baked potatoes, bread, pasta, and pizza. Adding it to fries is the best invention yet. Mozarella pops, on the other hand were mouth melting, cheesy with hints of herbs and paprika.
Drinks
Sour drinks quenches your thirst better. Sonyarita has the Cucumber lemonade which is not only nutritious but also refreshing. The other drink was the Gummy bear which name sounds adorable and the sweetness was not too much so we asked for another glass.
El Viraz Urban Grill
Ms Elvira named the place after herself and took some time to make sure she is satisfied with the design of her stall which is meticulously designed with a rodeo theme in mind. It’s like you’re in a movie set with a cowboy entering a Western saloon through the batwing doors in the old West, challenging you to a gun duel.
Quespada stick of pork
Pork was served in an unusual way which is using metal skewer that looks like a sword, hence the name Quespada, at least I think. The meat was well done, juicy and tasted great with the sauce provided but still is yummy on its own.

Dessertified
I wish I could just stare at the desserts we’ve been served and not drink it coz they’re just too good to look at.
Cookie Monster
Who would not turn into a cookie monster with all the Oreos in this concoction. Three Oreos on top of the milkshake and some more crushed Oreos sprinkled all over. The taste is well balanced. Milk provides extra gorgeousness to the mixture.
Chocolate Overload
If chocolate is a woman’s best friend then this drink is a woman’s BFF. It has a Kitkat bar, Pocky sticks, marshmallows, and chocolate sprinkles on top of milk chocolate. Chocolate never fails to take my stress away and this one did a great job. Can’t get enough of the right blend of ingredients incorporated in it.
Strawberry Milkshake
Vanilla ice cream with actual strawberries, a strawberry pretzel on top and strawberry Pocky sticks served in a tall glass. Not too sweet as well, cool and creamy , and a great way to end our dinner.
Usually I would go to crowded places because it would almost guarantee that a foodpark has good food and might be a cool place to hang out due to the large number of goers but for intimate gatherings and a breather, #Foodtrip in Marikina is a getaway. Most people would appreciate the dining area layout. Relaxing, awesome food choices and accessibility can spell the difference. A weekly schedule of acoustic performances is something to look forward to as well.

#Foodtrip is open daily from 4pm to 2am. Their complete address is #9 Guerilla Street corner Gil Fernando Ave., 1800 Marikina City.

Being a mom entails a lot of responsibility from the start of pregnancy up until the child reached school age. Mom’s need to be equipped and updated in regards to the products and services that is offered to aid in their child bearing and rearing stage.
Last April 21-23,Moms and moms-to- be, their toddlers and entire families were treated to the first ever Mom and Baby Expo organized by the Perinatal Association of the Philippines (PAP) at SM Megatrade Halls 1 and 2.
The exhibit showcased all facets of comprehensive perinatal healthcare such as products, services, technology and new methods, all of which were designed to aid Filipina mothers and their babies.
Families had the time of their lives visiting booth after booth, checking out the greatest finds- ranging from products loved and trusted by moms- both for themselves and for their babies . Other exhibitors used the event as a vehicle to introduce to the public their various services which are meant to improve the lives of the whole family.
Aside from the selling booths, expo guests also had a heyday trying out the various fun activities.
Highlights of the Event
But the highlight of the event were the series of talks of medical experts belonging to the PAP which delved into a whole range of topics pertaining to maternal-fetal and newborn topics.
Some of the topics that drew huge crowds were tips on how to get pregnant; vaccines needed for expecting moms as well as their babies; preconception tests; macro and micronutrient needs for moms; Sayuntis- exercise during pregnancy; and skin care for mom and baby.
PAP President Dra. Belen Velasco was elated over the number of moms and families who took the time to listen to the experts during the talks. She explained that it helped the PAP attain their goal of giving out advices and introducing new ideas and information to moms and expectant moms which can strengthen their maternal bondwith their babies.
Dra. Belen shares: “We have always dreamt of mounting an event where both parents and their children can learn and enjoy at the same time. But more than that, we are honored that, thru the Mom and Baby Expo 2017, we have created an avenue for the public to know more about the importance of perinatal care”.
The three-day event was made possible by the PAP, in partnership with its trusted affiliates- the Philippine Obstetrical and Gynecology Society (POGS), Philippine Pediatrics Society (PPS), Philippine Society of Newborn Medicine (PSNbM), Mother and Child Nurses Association of the Philippines (MCNAP), and the Integrated Midwives Association of the Philippines (IMAP).
The summer is the only time of year when you and your children can spend lots of time together, so why not make the most of it? One day, they will be grown up and will have their own lives to tend to. If you want to make the most of your summer this year and for all future years, then you need to plan ahead and ensure everything is budget friendly. There are plenty of things you can do without breaking the bank. Here are a few tips for putting together memorable summers with your children.
Plan a Camping Trip
It doesn’t matter where you live in the United States, you can find a place to camp out. The internet is a great resource for finding forest areas where citizens can camp out in tints and even RVs. Shop around for sleeping bags and durable tints for you and your family to enjoy a night under the stars. Make note of areas that have dangerous wildlife like coyotes, bears and wolves.
Go to Local Attractions
A lot of people ignore local attractions in their area, either because they’ve been to them multiple times or they simply overlook them. If there are places in your town that your children haven’t gone to, then consider taking them this summer. Some places you may want to check out include museums, theaters, parks and recreational facilities. The great thing about local attractions is you don’t have to pay much for gas and there’s no need for a hotel. Some spots may even offer discounts for residents.
Head to a Beach, Lake or River
Water fun is a must during the summertime. If you live along the coast, you can drive out to the beach, and if you don’t, you may be able to find a lake or river that’s safe to swim in. A picnic by the water sets a nice scene for family time. Just make sure to check the weather in advance, so you don’t end up dealing with rain, extreme heat or other hazardous conditions. It’s a good idea to bring umbrellas to help shield you from the sun.
Buy Outdoor Toys
You don’t have to go further than your backyard to have fun with your children. You can go to Toys R Us and pick up Nerf guns, water guns, sports gear and other outdoor toys everyone can enjoy. Get everyone’s input to see what type of toys and activities they would find engaging. If you don’t have yard space, you can opt for indoor toys, like board games, video games and other fun gadgets.
Go Abroad
If you have the funds, you can really shake things up and take everyone to a far away place. Get a passport for everyone and enjoy a trip to Italy, Japan or somewhere local like Canada and Mexico. Taking your children to different countries to see the various cultures and languages can be stimulating.

From April 6 – 8, 2017 at the SMX Convention Center in Pasay City, people from near and far places come together to share their passion for food. Part of the delegation representing Calabarzon is the chef behind the placed tagged as “definitely not your ordinary food find among the rising places at Tagaytay Ridge”; this is Chef Thomas Murillo of Wild Juan.
His love for food started young and he took his first step towards it during his sophomore year as a Consular and Diplomatic Affairs student at the College of Saint Benilde. He decided to take commercial cooking and culinary arts at First Gourmet Academy and had his apprenticeship at 2nds after. This lead him further by becoming one of the pioneering member behind Paprika PH and years later his own restaurant at a family-owned place at Tagaytay Ridge. Wild Juan is born.
Wild Juan bears the concept of East meets West and is delivered with the hospitality of Filipinos in the Southern part of Luzon. His food creations are something that we are all familiar with but are delivered with a twist and flair. Perfect sample are the Sisig Paksiw, Krispy Kasoy Kare-Kare (KKK) and Gumbulalo. Three common dishes but comes with a new level of flavor and goodness due to techniques and passion.
Learning never ends for Chef Thomas as he earns his NCII Commercial Cooking and ServSafe: Food Safety & Sanitation certificates. He pushes himself to be the best and at par to the world, thus making his quality for food high and passion much higher. He doesn’t stop there as he then shares his knowledge and passion this coming Madrid Fusion 2017 to foreign delegates and proudly represent Calabarzon.
Chef Thomas Murillo, stays humble yet proud of his craft thus from love of food it now is a burning passion. Come at the biggest food event this season at the SMX in Pasay or visit Wild Juan located at KM 68 Tagaytay-Nasugbu Highway and experience the comfort and passion that he shares at every plate served.
April 6-8, 2017 was a busy day for all foodies and food entrepreneur as Madrid Fusion 2017 took place at the SMX Convention Center in Pasay City. The whole place was like a hive, buzzing with activities and people.
Part of the Region 10 contingent was the product from Clarin, Misamis Occidental – the various sticky rice cakes or suman ng Clarin. Nearly all 17 flavors were displayed for tasting and sold in the 3-day event. ASEC Fredrick Alegre, along with some visitors, was wowed with the number of flavors that Clarin was able to showcase during Madrid Fusion, knowing that this is the first time that the said municipality has joined in this kind of event. The flavors of Clarin’s suman were as follow:
Mango – sticky rice with ripe mango slices, cooked in coconut milk and sugar.
Pinya – sticky rice with ripe pineapple slices, cooked in coconut milk and sugar.
Durian – sticky rice with durian slivers, cooked in coconut milk and sugar. The durian’s strong scent is not present, making this a delightful way of enjoying the fruit.
Tsokalate – sticky rice with tablea made into a spread, cooked with coconut milk and sugar; making this rich in local flavors.
Tsokolate with Mani – similar to tsokolate with added with peanut flavor coming from processed peanut spread. Also cooked in coconut milk and sugar.
Moron – a classic suman in the Visayan region.
Balintawak – created in honor of a place where it was made, this sticky rice goodness is with coconut meat made sweet by cooked coconut milk/oil (latik).
Classic – this is your standard sticky rice, wrapped in leaves and cooked using coconut milk and sugar.
Carrot – with shredded carrots made into a slightly sweet paste, this is mixed into the sticky rice and then wrapped in leaves before being cooked in coconut milk and sugar.
Ube – another root crop common in the area, the purple yam is made into a semi-sweet paste that is mixed with the sticky rice before being wrapped in leaves. Cooked with coconut milk and sugar.
Keso/Queso – slices of cheese are added into the sticky rice mix and then cooked with coconut milk and sugar. The cheese melts into the sticky rice making it more creamier in each bite.
Choco Moron – the classic suman of the Visayas region with chocolate jame added into it. Cooked in coconut milk and sugar mixture.
Buko – sticky rice with strings of young coconut meat added into the mixture. It is also cooked with coconut milk and sugar, making it slightly sweet and delicate.
Peanut – this is your locally processed peanuts, finely grounded and made into a near paste in texture then added into the sticky rice mixture before being wrapped in fresh banana leaves. Cooked with coconut milk and sugar, this suman creation is both delicate and with a crunch.
Latik – the sweetened form of the coconut milk, cooked till dark in color and then added into the sticky rice mixture before being cooked in coconut milk and sugar.
Adlai – two types of rice mixture was used in this suman. One is your standard sticky rice and another is one that is high in fiber. This suman creation can be considered healthy because of the high fiber content that helps in the digestion of food.
Langka/Nangka – slivers of ripe langka (visayan: nangka), is place into the sticky rice and then wrapped in fresh banana leaves before being cook in their standard coconut milk-sugar mixture.
People can’t have enough of this sticky rice mixture that some even came back to buy more of it. They can’t believe that you can have that many variations of sticky rice creations and still be delicious and true to the nature of suman. Such were the feedback given especially during the 3rd-day Regional Lunch, which was attended by all the delegates present in the event.
As of the moment, this sticky rice cake creation can be bought in the House of Suman in Clarin, Misamis Occidental. For further inquiries regarding the product, you can reach the PR/Social Media team of TBDC thru 09778400606 (Kezia Noblia – Account Director).
When a dream is driven by passion, there is no reason for it not to come into reality. Such is the case of known liquid chef, Chef Kalel Demetrio – the man behind the name Liquido Maestro (Liquid Master). From humble beginnings, he worked his way up and be where he is now. From a simple restaurant staff, to a bartender, to a name and status he desired now, he never forgets his humble beginning.
As a liquid chef, Kalel has never strapped himself down to simply creating cocktails – which is common to most mixologist, he pushed himself in creating innovative infusion and drinks suitable to all ages. From simple juice or iced tea with a twist, to cleverly mixed smoothies and satiny smooth cocktails, Kalel will show you what he can do and what his mind can create. An advocate of the farm-to-glass principle, he believes that nature has given us a lot of things to use and enjoy as a consumable item.
Not only can he create drinks of wonder but also food of delights. He has collaborated with other restaurants creating flavors that are tongue-talizing to one’s senses. He also now have a restaurant where in shows his kitchen and bar skills. Like any other chef’s, he believes in stimulating the senses of people to enjoy the bounty coming from Earth. Not only are his drinks visually and taste bud-dancingly good but also has texture and scent delight. He likes to explore the local market of a certain place to know the community and see what unknown goods he can harvest and try in his laboratory. Part of the long list of bars and restaurants wherein his creations are featured are: Big Bad Wolf, Gorda, Green Pastures and 2020/XXXX. No small thanks to his brand Destileria Limtuaco and Locally (NutriAsia), for supporting him in his visions and aspirations.
He is a man of duty and obligation. Kalel knows how to balance his personal life with that of this work demand; a caring individual to those who are close, important and of value to him. Despite his tight work schedule, he still manages to give time and space to himself and those he love.
Liquid may be his working craft but Kalel delivers with a punch to remind you of the experience you had with his creative concoction.
