Giving blood is not all about helping save another person’s life. In fact, a single donation saves the lives of up to three people. Surprisingly, there are a few health perks for the blood donor too. First off, your blood may flow better. A study found out that blood donors are 88% less likely to suffer a heart attack. Second, you’ll get a mini check-up. The screenings will check your pulse, temperature, hemoglobin levels and blood pressure, and will also undergo different tests for infectious diseases. Lastly, your iron levels will stay balanced. Whenever you donate a unit of blood, you also lose a quarter of a gram of iron which is replenished from the food you intake a few weeks post donation.
If that’s not enough motivation then check this out. This year, three lucky donors will receive Php 5,000 worth of travel vouchers at the Donate Blood Save Life 2018 Campaign of the International Cabin Attendant Training School (ICATS) in Pasig City on the 28th of September.
Held in partnership with the Philippine Red Cross, the campaign aims to promote awareness about blood donation and its importance in preserving life. It starts at 9 a.m. at Unit 907-A East Tower of the Philippine Stock Exchange Center along Exchange Road, Ortigas Center, Pasig City. This year’s theme is “Share the gift of life.”
“The event is part of our corporate social responsibility and is our way of giving back to the community. We invite everyone to join this worthwhile endeavor. This is your chance to help others and feel good at the same time,” according to Lou Aseron, ICATS marketing head.
In addition to getting a free medical checkup and knowing their blood type, hemoglobin level, and blood pressure, donors will receive freebies and giveaways. Prior to donating blood, they will be interviewed and examined to know if they are qualified. Free food and souvenirs will also be provided during the event.
What’s more, donors will automatically join the raffle draw and get a chance to win P5,000 worth of gift vouchers from Aliah Travel and Tours. Guests will have until 5 p.m. to submit their donor vouchers that serve as their raffle coupons at the front desk. Three lucky winners will be drawn at 5:30 p.m.
Donors must be between 18 to 60 years old, weigh at least a 110 pounds or about 50 kilograms, and have a normal body temperature. They should have a blood pressure of 90 – 160/60 – 100 mmHg and a pulse rate between 50 to 200 beats per minute. They must also pass a routine check for hemoglobin. Teenagers as young as 16 can donate blood if they are allowed by their parents.
“Have enough rest and at least five hours of sleep if you intend to donate blood. Avoid alcohol 12 to 24 hours before the procedure and no surgery within the year or body piercing or tattoos for the last 12 months. Donors must be physically healthy with no sexually transmitted diseases,” Aseron explained.
Make a difference today. Donate blood and help others live. For more information, call 470-7523, 0917-8222366 or 0939-9144309. You can also check out https://www.facebook.com/events/521374688312684/.

Held last October at the Eton Centris Walk, the event reunited Moira dela Torre and IV of Spades who brought the house down with their show-stopping performances and an even more exciting surprise.
Now on its second year, the brand’s annual event was launched as a way to celebrate and continually refresh Acer. Completing the roster of 20 countries across the Pan-Asia Pacific Region who participated in the Acer Day festivities, Acer Philippines treated customers to nearly two months of various awesome promos and discounts.
“It’s such a good feeling to be coming back with Acer Day for a second year,” shares Sue Ong-Lim, Sales and Marketing Director of Acer Philippines. “As this year’s celebration comes to a sweet end, we feel that we are starting a tradition with our consumers that is surely just going to get better with time.”
Remaining faithful to this year’s Acer Day theme “Play Music Together”, the leading tech and innovations company partnered with Wish FM 107.5 to reunite Moira dela Torre and IV of Spades, who had previously led the launch event of Acer Day last July. The preventable and treatable disease is still the second leading cause of death in children under the age of five.
MANILA, October 10, 2018 – Despite advances in modern medicine, children under the age of five are still susceptible to diarrhea—a disease that has been identified as the second leading cause of death in children worldwide, next to pneumonia.
The World Health Organization (WHO) reported that diarrhea kills about half a million children aged under five each year.In the Philippines, it is also one of the leading causes of death among children, translating to 14 Filipino children dying of the disease every day before they reach the age of 5.
Rotavirus is the number one cause of severe, dehydrating diarrhea. This virus is highly contagious and can spread via fecal- oral route. It is readily transmitted from contaminated surfaces, such as when infants and young children frequently put their hands and toys into their mouths.5-6 The virus has also sent millions of infants and young children to hospitals and clinics. Studies have shown that a child who has experienced severe, dehydrating diarrhea may suffer from its long-term effects such as loss of IQ by up to 10 points, fitness impairment, decreased school performance including delayed school age.7-9
It is a universal disease that our children can acquire, rich or poor. To combat the threat of diarrhea, GSK, one of the world’s science- led healthcare companies, in partnership with the Philippine Foundation for Vaccination (PFV), officially launched the “Game On: Kontra Diarrhea” campaign on October 10. The campaign aims to emphasize the gravity of the disease and a holistic approach to its prevention, which includes breastfeeding, improvement of hygiene and clean water supply, handwashing, and vaccination.
“We want to inform and empower mothers all over the Philippines to give their children a better chance to a brighter future. Rotavirus diarrhea can seriously impact on a child’s growth and development. A holistic approach—breastfeeding, access to clean water and sanitation, handwashing, and vaccination—has been considered to give Filipino infants and young children a chance against this lifethreatening disease,” said Dr. Lulu Bravo, Executive Director of the PFV.
“Helping protect our Filipino children from vaccine- preventable diseases such as diarrhea has always been a continuing commitment and advocacy of the PFV,”shared Dr. Bravo.
Vaccinating a child against rotavirus has been considered generally safe and effective based on data from countries who have implemented national rotavirus vaccination programs. In line with the WHO recommendation, 11 there are more than 80 countries that have implemented this measure such as the Philippines, Thailand14, United States, and the United Kingdom. Hospitalization rates and diarrheal deaths in these countries, have declined.
“Diarrhea has been a long-standing health issue around the world and in the Philippines. The time is now for us to act on it by increasing awareness amongst the public on the serious consequences of diarrhea among children,” said Sriram Jambunathan, General Manager of GSK Philippines.
“We will continue to help raise awareness on childhood diarrhea in some of the communities in the provinces with the highest diarrhea cases. All of us—industry, doctors, policymakers, and the civil society– need to work together to help ensure that our children remain healthy and protected from diarrhea,” urged Jambunathan.
This year, GSK commemorates its 50th year in the Philippines and commits to continue helping Filipinos do more, feel better, live longer. The Game On: Kontra Diarrhea Caravan will be in Agusan on October, Iloilo on October 23, Manila on October 25, and finally in Dagupan on November 5.
To know more about the childhood diarrhea and how to prevent it, consult your doctor or community health worker.

MANILA History has been made with the announcement of Rizal Commercial Banking Corporation (RCBC)’s partnership with the country’s first-ever franchise-model mobile and desktop e-sports league, The Nationals. This is the first time that a local financial institution has officially supported such an event, recognizing electronic gaming community as one of today’s fastest growing e-commerce markets.
Despite being one of the biggest markets for online purchases, today’s gamers know all too well the frustration of not being able to purchase in-game upgrades or special items without a credit card. To address this, RCBC introduced the MyWallet Virtual Card – a reloadable Visa prepaid card that gamers can use to buy ePins, DLCs and other upgrades online for their favorite games, even without a credit card. The MyWallet Virtual Card has no monthly maintaining balance and users can be assured of security because they only need to load it with as much cash that they’re comfortable with at any given time.
With RCBC supporting The Road to Nationals, every participant will be registered to their own MyWallet Virtual Cards when they sign up for the tournament.
Outside of The Nationals, the MyWallet Virtual Card is available to anyone looking for a safe & convenient payment solution for shopping online, booking flights & even paying bills. Applicants can easily sign up for a MyWallet Virtual Card via the RCBC online banking website for free
Beginning with Road to The Nationals running through until the end of October, viewers will be able to follow their favorite professional Pinoy gamers via broadcast and online coverage on ESPN-5.
With Road to The Nationals currently ongoing, the RCBC MyWallet Virtual Card is proud to play a vital role in Philippines’ entry into the global e-sports tournament scene, while giving a new generation access to the world of safe and convenient online transactions.
Halloween is coming up. You can’t miss it. Everywhere you look, there are ghosts and cobwebs, witches and monsters on display. People are getting ready for the month’s end parties and festivities. Sure, there are many things to do to prepare for Halloween. You can hang up the decors, start coming up with your costume, or you can get yourself in the mood by marathoning these creepy season-appropriate shows before the big day.
American Horror Story
The horror anthology series created by Ryan Murphy has produced some of the scariest and the freakiest episodes on network television that anyone has ever seen before. Every season, boundaries are pushed to how far the audience can be terrified and terrorized. Each one a mini-series of their own, a different storyline each season with a beginning, middle and end with an excellent cast that returns each season to play different characters. There are nine seasons so far with the latest being “Apocalypse.” Whether it’s your first time to watch it or rewatching the series for the nth time, American Horror Story is a guaranteed creepfest perfect for Halloween.
The Walking Dead
Even if you are one of the few people who haven’t watched The Walking Dead before, you must have heard about the post-apocalyptic zombie hit already. On its ninth season, the show is still one of the most-watched television in the world. Follow the band of survivors as they fight off the undead and (sometimes) each other in trying to live for another day and live in world where the dead comes back to life to eat them. October is the perfect month to marathon previous episodes and catch up since season 9 is just starting — and this new season promises a lot of dramatic changes ahead.
Twin Peaks: The Return
Set 25 years after the events of the original series, this return to Twin Peaks is touted as one of the finest television show of 2017. It is just 18 episodes, and its unconventional narrative structure, visuals, and strong cast can make for a satisfying lead up to Halloween. While not categorically a horror show, Twin Peaks can get under your skin in ways blood and gore could never do.
Age of the Living Dead
Age of the Living Dead is a six-part British supernatural horror miniseries set in a world where vampires rule the country and humans are forced to make a weekly blood “donation.” Eventually, the humans have had enough and rose up in arms. With complications, of course.
A Discovery of Witches
Ok, perhaps this FOX+ exclusive is not on this side of creepy. But this new supernatural romance series based on the bestselling historical supernatural romance novel of the same name is worth checking out. A devilishly charming British vampire and a witch entangled in a forbidden love affair against the whole magical world? Sign us up!
FOX+ has all the seasons of American Horror Story, The Walking Dead, Twin Peaks: The Return, Age of the Living Dead, and the new season of A Discovery of Witches ready for streaming. Dr. Jason Bull seems to have gone through a change of heart after S2 cliffhanger
Brash and brilliant Dr. Jason Bull (Michael Weatherly) not only comes back alive after suffering from a massive heart attack on the Season 2 finale. He’s also looking like a whole new man as he goes straight back to work and ready for another bout of courtroom voir dire in the third season of Bull on Blue Ant Entertainment.
Towards the end of the last season, Dr. Bull fell into a downward spiral—drinking, overeating, missing out on sleep, and occasionally throwing out tantrums that would sour the confidence of the Trial Analysis Corporation team.
The new season, however, opens with a sleeker-looking man, without the unkempt hair, unshaven face, and the pounds around his waist and under his chin—signs of change from someone who only thinks about himself. Unfortunately, he returns to work facing a rather rich client, an insurance company being sued by a dying mother who was denied coverage for a liver transplant. Will the snarky Dr. Bull manage to choose the right thing not just for himself but also for his team?
It’s a decision that could make or break his return after almost losing the team’s confidence in the previous season due to his self-destructive decisions, especially when he found out that his ex-wife was remarrying. TAC’s second-in-command Marissa Morgan (Geneva Carr) couldn’t help but confront him: “I think you’re an amazing person, Jason, but I am tired of worrying about you, pitying you. I want to admire you again.”
He then tried patching things up—by taking on a risky death penalty case involving a mute man accused of rape, murder, and arson. The team didn’t share his enthusiasm and thought that he was being too impulsive when he took the case. No matter what they said, he trusted his guts—the way he had always done to do what was right for his team and clients.
Dr. Bull stood by his instincts and persuaded the team that there was hope not only for the case, but also for him to make things right again. In the end, they managed to uncover the tracks of the real perpetrator and prove their client’s innocence— not without a heavy toll on him that left viewers with bated breath.
Now Bull is back and in much better health—and more importantly, with more sensitive feelings. Could it be because he came face to face with his mortality? The entire TAC team is certainly happy seeing their boss back in business, but whether he’s become a changed man is another story.
Viewers will have to wait and see if Dr. Bull returns with a kinder disposition when he is enlisted by a big insurance company for a controversial case. The new season also puts the trial science expert Dr. Bull in the jury seat, serving his civic duty while working on a case to defend a woman accused of killing her daughter’s murderer in the next case.
Catch the two-episode premiere of Bull Season 3 on October 12, Friday at 9:45PM (8:45PM JKT/BKK) on Blue Ant Entertainment.

To highlight the crispy-sarap in every bite of its best-selling Jolly Crispy Fries, fast-food giant releases an ad that will get you rushing to the nearest Jollibee
“Malata” (limp) means a general lack of energy, pep, enthusiasm, and when used to refer to food, a lack of crunch, lively flavor, or interesting textures. For many Pinoy French fry-lovers, there’s nothing better than enjoying crispy-sarap right from the first bite, like with Jollibee’s best-selling Jolly Crispy Fries.
Jollibee, the country’s number one fast-food brand, recently released an online video that hilariously captures how unfortunatemalata—especially in a traditionally crispy favorite—can be. With on-point comedic performances and crave-inducing beauty shots of the Jolly Crispy Fries.
By focusing on situations where malata just wouldn’t cut it, the video—conceptualized by creative agency Dentsu Jayme Syfu and brought to life by Makina Productions—shows a scene familiar to many Pinoy teens: a volleyball game.
In this scenario, the character is put under the spotlight for a highly anticipated shining moment, only to let the cheering crowd down because of her malata, lackluster performance. This dyahe moment serves as the perfect segue into the direct opposite of malata: crispiness served up in every bite of the Jolly Crispy Fries.
Made with 100% real potatoes and covered with special fries coating to make every piece extra crispy, Jolly Crispy Fries serve as the perfect complement to classic Jollibee favorites or as a flavorful, satisfying snack on its own. And with different serving sizes—even up to jumbo—it’s the best treat to share with the whole barkada while hanging out or whenever the craving for bite after bite of unforgettably crispy potatoes strikes.
“This new ad is a great way to illustrate the unique crispy-sarap kada bite goodness of the Jolly Crispy Fries,” said Kay Segismundo, Jollibee Senior Marketing Manager for Complementary products. “The funny scenario definitely captures the feeling when you get soggy, limp fries—it’s not fun and you end up feeling dismayed. Plus, malata fries don’t pack the flavor and the unparalleled enjoyment of snacking on crispy, golden, perfectly cooked potatoes. There’s truly nothing else like the Jolly Crispy Fries!”
Jolly Crispy Fries are available all day in all Jollibee stores nationwide for dine-in, take-out, delivery, and drive-thru transactions. Pick your preferred serving size from regular (P39.00*), large (P60.00*), and when you just can’t get enough, the jumbo (P72.00*)! You can also watch the wonderful ads on Jollibee’s digital assets: on Facebook and YouTube!
