Striking a life balance is no easy task to do. It requires hard work and dedication which sometimes can be strenuous to achieve. Can you imagine how overtaxing it is to juggle between your career and providing for your loved ones?
Studies have shown that stress is commonly caused by interrelationships, such as having to deal with work issues and family-related complications. If left unresolved over time, it could lead to immune deficiency, which later on, might cause other parts of our body to show signs of disruption like hair loss.
Many of us could attest to that. It’s like always autumnal equinox whenever we experience chronic hair fall, most especially at the prime of stress. At its peak, our white blood cells attack no less than the follicles, thus causing alopecia. What’s more, anxiety could drive your mane into a prolonged resting phase, which is called telogen effluvium.
Stress experienced by the body or beyond our coping resources could trigger hair loss symptoms, which, if not addressed properly, could result to early baldness. Worried about this? Fret no more. You can beat it simply by relaxing, eating or flexing some muscles.
Never underestimate the power of sleep. If you feel that you are over your head in dealing with anxieties, choose to rest it off for a while and recharge.
Let’s get physical to de-stress. It helps release endorphins, or what is known as the happy hormones, that can be beneficial in relieving the tension.
Eat more fruits and veggies. Having these as a staple in your diet will bolster your immunity from disease, which in turn, knock out stress. We can all benefit from the vitamins and minerals of the healthy food we consume.
It’s best to complement these simple regimens with a topical solution that’s safe to keep your crowning glory at its robust state. NOVUHAIR, nature’s answer to hair loss, is made up of 19 natural ingredients that work in synergy to help remedy stress-related hair loss and promote healthy tress and scalp.
The challenge in preventing these mane problems is to keep your locks healthy with proper care and let it grow naturally sans subjecting your hair to temporary relief with the use of harmful chemicals. Go natural.
NOVUHAIR contains natural extracts, herbal oils and essences, such as lavender that is also known to relieve stress. It also has a scent that leaves a calming effect.
NOVUHAIR is available at Mercury Drug and other leading drugstores nationwide. There is no substitute for rice, at least for me. Nothing satisfies my famished tummy but another serving of steamed white rice on my Chicken inasal! Not brown, red, or black but white rice. A local politician even proposed limiting the rice servings in restos which sounds completely absurd for the majority. Yes, white rice is high in sugar which is not beneficial to our health but there must be another way to be filled and stay healthy. Yesterday I found the answer.
The real problem with rice is the High RDS content It’s all in the cooking. Apparently, when rice is cooked a certain way, it turns into a healthier carbohydrate. As I listened to the media launch of Grayns revolutionary health cooker, I understood that carbohydrate is made up of two starches: Amylose and Amylopectin. If the Amylopectin content is higher than the Amylose then it is classified as a Rapidly Digestible Starch (RDS) instead of Slowly Digestible Starch (SDS).
SDS moderates the glycemic response through moderate and steady release of glucose in the blood and it also improves nutritional quality of the food. To put things in perspective, oats has a higher Amylose to Amylopectin ratio that classifies it as an SDS. SDS is naturally found in certain uncooked grains such as wheat, rice, barley, rye and corn.
When rice is cooked in a Grayns rice cooker, it has a higher Amylopectin to Amylose ratio and can be classified as a Slowly Digestible Starch (SDS). To make it simple, rice is no longer the sugar that it would be. It becomes a healthier carbohydrate which provides energy while digesting SLOWLY into our bloodstream without spiking blood glucose levels.
With Grayns Rice Cooker you can adjust the softness and moisture of the rice. You can also cook any variety of rice from brown, red, black and you can even cook vegetables or native delicacies like puto.
Now that’s beneficial for people with Diabetes and also great for Obesity, Premature aging, high cholesterol and Cancer. How is it possible? Through the process of low temperature pasteurization, rice is cooked in the right temperature to gelatinize rice which results to release of Rapidly Digestible Starch yet retaining the vital nutrition and minerals.
The whole cooking process takes four stages will take about 40 minutes and Thermosense is the first stage. In the Debond stage, the gelatinization temperature is maintained compelling most of the RDS to get out of the rice. The RDS is then Transuded or discharged gradually through pores below the apparatus and drained into the Starch Collection tray.
Finally, rice is Demoisturized of the excess moisture making it healthy, delicious, fluffy and it undergoes maximum expansion to give it at least 50% more volume so more people can consume it. Also less moisture means rice can last up to 5 or more days when left outside at room temperature in a tropical climate.
Starch gelatinization is a process of breaking down the intermolecular bonds of starch molecules in the presence of water and heat, allowing the hydrogen bonding sites (the hydroxyl hydrogen and oxygen) to engage more water. This irreversibly dissolves the starch granule in water.source https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Starch_gelatinization
The Grayns Rice cooker cooks rice scientifically the way nature meant it to be cooked by removing the excess, unhealthy sugar content.
How much is it? So you’re sold but here comes the biggest question of it all. The Grayns rice cooker costs PhP27,000 and is available in Rustans and Abenson, and also available in Cebu and Davao. A more pressing issue is..how much does hospitalization cost or how much does medicine maintenance cost? The company is considering a more affordable option in the future. Currently, it is the only one in the market. Grayns rice cooker has been in the Philippines for a year. It is a Malaysian product where obesity rate is at its highest. Switch to a guilt free and healthier lifestyle choice with Grayns.
French cuisine can be intimidating to learn. Their style of cooking can seem sophisticated, but it is not rocket science. The right techniques, ingredients, and dining mentality, is all you need for creating amazing French meals in your very own kitchen. It is simple and familiar comfort food as Chef Xavier Btesh demonstrates in the recent Maya Kitchen Culinary Elite Series. He breaks down the basics of French cooking and reveals how it can easily be done in the Filipino home.
Born and raised in Paris, Chef Xavier spent the earlier part of his career training under renowned chefs before he went on to become a consultant chef for various businesses and eventually publish his own cookbook Les Petits Dîners de Xavier which sold more than 40,000 copies across Europe.
For someone who has travelled the world and has caught the attention of clientele from high-end lifestyle brands to Europe’s royalty, chef Xavier’s philosophy on food and cooking remains constant. It should be uncomplicated.
“When you’re a French chef, people come to you and they tell you about 3-star, 4-star Michelin chefs, truffles, and foie gras. But I keep telling people, this is not the food we eat daily,” he says. “I know that Filipinos love their family-style and we’re the same in France, we have family-style as well. I want to show the way we eat at home.”
He also shares that many of us don’t realize French dishes have a lot of similarities with Filipino food. In the same way that we have “adobo,” the French have their own version as well. Just switch the vinegar with wine and there you’ll have a French chicken stew.
Now that he has been living in the Philippines for over five years, he pays tribute to this country he has fallen in love with and the people who have welcomed him with open arms by sharing valuable knowledge and his cooking legacy. Through his newest cookbook, French Kusina, chef Xavier teaches you how to infuse French techniques and styles into dishes that you can easily create at home using local ingredients.
These are recipes which also allow you to add your own personal flavors to each dish. “I think recipes should be whatever floats your boat,” he says. “Food is craftwork that you share and pass-on; and each of us can do it his own way.”
Whether you’re a chef, a foodie or a home cook, chef Xavier will always tell you to “cook with your heart,” and think about the people you are cooking for. “Don’t mix too much stuff to begin with, because the more you mix, the trickier it gets to play with flavors and ingredients. Keep it simple,” he says. “And don’t be scared. I truly, truly believe there is no bad chef.”
We can learn from chef Xavier that cooking the French way isn’t that complicated and each recipe will always have room for your own personal touch. In the Maya Kitchen Culinary Elite Series, you’ll definitely be given the tips and motivation to cook like an expert.

The Philippines isn’t new to natural disasters or calamities.
Compared to its other Southeast Asian neighbors, our country experiences a wider range of disasters. From floods to landslides, and typhoons to earthquakes – the most recent of which just happened in Leyte with a magnitude of 6.5 – the Philippines continues to endure and survive. Though the government does its best in preparing for and anticipating these times of emergency through awareness efforts and disaster response drills, self-mitigation is still an area that we can further improve on.
Surendra Menon, CEO of the country’s premier bancassurance company, BPI-Philam, learned from the resiliency of Filipinos and their experience in times of crisis, believing this has given them a good start in disaster preparedness.
“Most Asian countries don’t have typhoons; most of them are prepared for floods, fires, and some earthquakes. But here you have the full range – you have typhoons, you have earthquakes, tsunamis, even volcanoes. Most things about disaster preparedness Filipinos have learned because you’ve gone through it all,” he said
Despite this vast experience of the nation, Menon encourages practicing resourcefulness by taking notes from disaster responsiveness of other countries in the region. Having worked and lived in Indonesia, he recalls the massive 1989 earthquake that hit its West Papua region, where countless people died and survivors ran out of supplies in a few months’ time, remaining displaced years after the incident.
He believes Indonesians and Filipinos are somewhat similar given their experiences, but Filipinos can up their preparedness by starting with themselves.
“Disaster has a long-term impact, but only short-term assistance will come so it’s up to you to bridge the gap between short-term assistance and long-term necessities,” he stressed.
Micro-preparedness
Menon, who served as a Lieutenant Captain for Singapore’s Civil Defense Forces, shared some practical tips that could help anybody self-mitigate in times of disaster.
“On a physical basis, make sure you have two weeks’ worth of water in your house. The first and foremost necessity for survival is water,” Menon said. “You will need food – dry food like biscuits that can last for two weeks as well for you and your family should be enough to go around when a disaster strikes and until help comes.”
Apart from physical needs, he also reminded Filipinos to have available cash at hand for emergency purchases and backup funds in the bank. “Maintaining an insurance plan would help too,” he said. “Prioritize protection from accidents first, then your health and life [insurance].”
Prioritize today, protect the future
Starting and maintaining financial contingency plans may not seem to be a priority for the average Filipino worker, but Menon believes foresight is a good thing to have, not just for ourselves but for those who matter to us most.
“The order of priority for your funds should be ‘today’ first and then ‘immediate emergency,'” he said.
“The next priority after that should be protecting your future income, preferably through a life insurance plan, so your family won’t have to worry about resources should something happen to you.”
Confident of the Filipinos’ indomitable spirit – the driving force against some of the worst natural and man-made disasters that hit the region – Menon is convinced the Philippines can only get more resilient through learnings from past calamities and ensure enough preparation for life’s uncertainties.
Hair is one of the best accessory to any woman because of its versatility to the ever changing fashion trends and personal life choices. Investing in one’s hair is important as it reflects our own identity.
My hair have gone through a lot of transformation for the past 2 years , the most notable one was when I decided to try blonde hair with white highlights. I receive a lot of compliments but due to work compliance I have to tone it down to a rich light brown color.
By December last year I badly needed to touch up on my roots as my hair is getting longer. Luckily I was given a diy liese bubble color in marshmallow brown. My first diy was a success and it lasted for a few months.
Until February came when I was invited to do a hair coloring session. I always wanted to rock a pastel colored mane but the hair stylist suggested a subtle dye which is a combination of black and blue ombre.
After so many years of coloring my hair I went back to black again. The blue half of my ombre hair faded into blonde. My hair is naturally thick and the length is just above my waist line. I badly needed a makeover because my hair had become dull and frizzy at the same time due to my work schedule I hardly have time to go to a salon.Luckily Vivere Salon Galleria was right up my alley when I decided to update my NBI clearance at Robinson Lingkod Pinoy center.
Ambiance
I was immediately welcomed by Vivere Salon Galleria‘s posh yet minimalistic design. The salon is a breath of fresh air unlike the roadside street salon which reeks of a strong smell of chemicals. The staff greeted me with a smile and courteously assisted me to my seat . I was given a free complimentary ice tea and the password to their wifi as salon appointments can take up to 4-6 hours.
Their Senior Stylist Ysmael Sagayaga was the one who was assigned to me. Ysmael has a 4 year experience as a Junior Stylist and was promoted and assigned at Robinson Galleria Vivere Salon branch last May as one of their Senior Stylist. According to Ysmael some of their Senior Stylist was sent internationally to be trained at Vidal Sassoon Academy.
After sporting my dark ombre locks for a few months, I was ready to embrace the vibrant colored hair life again. Equipped with a picture of my latest hair color inspiration which is ash grey. Ysmael assessed my hair to see if it can handle the bleaching and after finding out that my hair was dyed in black, we did a test bleach on the side section of my hair to check if the color will stick.
Unfortunately the Black dye was too strong and it can only take a certain degree of bleaching to make it lighter. Ysmael showed me another option for my locks which was dark violet or red.
The first step was to wash my hair with a little head massage
Then they bleached my hair 2 times and I am just glad that my hair is thick to take all the bleaching.
They washed my hair again and then the color was already applied
They put my hair under the orbiting hair dryer and color processor
They washed my hair and put on some treatment.
They blow dried and curl my hair . I love how it shines under the light .
Overall experience:
The staff was friendly and courteous. The salon offers a wide range of services for every hair needs. The result made my hair shine under the light and the curls accentuate the dark violet and red color. I am happy with my hair color as it was the color in between subtle and vibrant . The dark violet with ombre red ends complimented my skin color.
After 3 days
After 3 days the color is still vibrant as I have not washed it yet for the color to stick. It is more vibrant under direct sunlight and the ends turned into a somewhat red and pink hue. I received a lot of compliments and one in particular is from my niece and nephew , they thought I was going for Ariel ( little mermaid) signature color.
MAKATI City Philippines – Bank of the Philippine islands officially launches its micro finance bank, BPI Direct Banko, Inc., or BanKo. The micro finance bank is the result of the merger of two specialized thrift bank units of BPI-BPI Direct Savings Bank Inc. and BPI Globe BanKo.
Banko will serve self-employed micro entrepreneurs (SEMEs) running their small businesses. Aside from providing SEMEs affordable and appropriate loan products, Banko aims to empower SEMEs with expert financial advice and solutions that promote the growth and expansion of the SEMEs’ enterprises.

We believe that we are able to help create a more positive impact on their quality of life, and ultimately, contribute to the country’s economic growth.”
BanKo recently opened 15 new branches in key areas around the country, including Bicol, Negros Oritental, Davao, and Central Luzon bringing the total number of branches, nationwide to 24. By October 201, BanKo aims to have 90 branches nationwide.

BanKo’s primary loan product, the NegosyoKo Loan, is an easy, convenient and affordable loan that SEMEs may use for additional capital or business expansion. A NegosyoKo loan may range from as low as Php 25,000 to Php 300,000
Last July 18th, 2017 a press conference was held at Golden Bay Restaurant, Pasay City for the public service TV show Buhay OFW which celebrates its 7th year on television. It is hosted and founded by Marissa del Mar. Anti Trafficking OFW Movement (ATOM) will also have its oath taking on October 23, 2017 and makes the event more meaningful.
The TV program takes a step further by taking action against human trafficking of Filipinos which happens all over the world. It reminds everybody that no Filipino is for sale.
2016 marks a great year for the Philippine government for achieving a Tier 1 ranking. It is the highest compliance level with regards to the Trafficking Victims Protection Act (TVPA). Despite this milestone, our further steps are still needed to ensure that all Filipinos are free from illegal trade.
Modern communication and social media makes catching the criminals even harder and claims more victims of human trafficking. It makes its way through unsuspicious emails promising better jobs abroad. Nobody is safe from the danger of forced labor, prostitution and abuse.
Modern slavery, contrary to popular belief, is not always run by gangsters and operated illegally. The existence of legal permits and travel documents do not spare anyone from being victims. It does not even discriminate among the social classes and everyone can be a prone to the abuse.
Proper education and widespread information about the issue at hand is the first step towards resolving the human trafficking concern. Each of us can help prevent this by doing our part. It may involve reporting illegal recruitment, suspicious activities and possible victims.
ATOM works together with other organizations to bring an end to human trafficking: Buhay OFW Foundation, San Miguel Corporation, Volunteers Against Crime and Corruption (VACC ), National Real Estate Association (NREA ), Sterling Group of Companies, Management Association of the Philippines (MAP ), Philippine Chamber of Commerce and Industry (PCCI ), Philippine Chinese Charitable Association(PCCA ), Zonta Club of Makati Central Business District, Philippine Chinese Chamber of Commerce and Industry Inc., (PCCCII), together with their media partners Aksyon TV, ANC, Light Network Channel, Malaya Business Insight.
For more info and partnerships, please contact Veronica Ramos at 0927-8484533 or Mari De Los Santos at 834-9673 of Buhay OFW TV.
