More Filipinos will now have access to up-to- date information as PLDT wireless subsidiary Smart Communications partners with Twitter to bring the Twitter Lite experience to mobile users across the country.
Twitter has launched a data-friendly version of its service called Twitter Lite, which will enhance Filipino users’ mobile-first experience with fast and real-time information on what’s happening around the world and what people are talking about.
Twitter Lite users will still get to enjoy the key features of Twitter on mobile web, without consuming too much data. To activate Twitter Lite, users must log on to mobile.twitter.com on their phone browser, click on their user photo to go to settings, and activate the Data Saver mode. On the Twitter Lite timeline, users will see a preview of images and videos, before choosing which ones to fully load.
Optimal use via TNT, Opera Mini
To maximize the Twitter Lite experience, TNT, Smart’s value brand, is offering three-day access to Twitter, whether via Twitter app or mobile web browser, for just P10. To avail of this service, TNT subscribers may text TWITTER10 to 4545.
Smart Prepaid users may also avail of All Out Surf 30, which offers 300 MB open access that can be used for Twitter for two days, apart from unlimited texts to all networks and 30-minute calls to Smart, TNT, and Sun. Smart Prepaid subscribers may text ALLOUT30 to 9999 to get this data package.
Using Opera Mini further amplifies Smart, Sun and TNT users’ Twitter Lite experience, as the browser compresses data and loads faster. The Twitter Lite option is set on the speed dial of Opera Mini upon installation, giving Smart, Sun and TNT subscribers easy access to the latest news and information on their favorite entertainment and sports celebrities.
Beneficial partnership
“We are happy to partner with Twitter to offer the Twitter Lite experience to our more than 63 million subscribers across the Philippines,” said Harvey Libarnes, vice president for digital products and partnerships at Smart. “This partnership will benefit our subscribers, especially those who have limited connectivity, because they will get to fully enjoy the mobile web features of Twitter while at the same time have access to the latest information anytime and anywhere in the country,” Libarnes added.
“Entertainment is one of the most talked about topics in the Philippines on Twitter. For example, we saw over 4.6 million tweets during AlDub’s first-ever teleserye Destined to be Yours’ pilot episode,” said Dwi Adriansah, head of business development for Twitter Southeast Asia and Australia. “We are excited to partner with two of the largest telcos in the country to bring data-friendly, real-time updates from what’s happening with love couples like AlDub, KathNiel, and JaDine, to the latest teleseryes, as shared experiences to more Filipinos across the nation with Twitter Lite.”

Tutuban Center holds a special place in my heart, as way back in high school I used to shop here with my parents. I can vividly remember how amazed I was at the prices and how big the place is, since I got two pants and a shirt for just P300.
It was quite a bargain and I learned how to haggle at the same time. I got invited to a shopping challenge and the budget was P1000. We were given a list of what we should buy and since I used to work in a bank ,I put my budgeting and time management skills to the test.
The first hour was overwhelming as there were many choices from clothes, shoes, bags, gadgets, beauty products and school supplies. Tutuban center changed as they now have 3 floors full of stores that will cater to all your needs.
I spent 2 hours roaming around first to check out each and every store so that by the next hour I know where to buy what was on my list.
Lunch time came and we dined in at Savory, our lunch was filled with scrumptious food and fun conversations as we exchange ideas on which store gives the best deal.
School essentials
After lunch my first stop was to get school supplies and Papermart was right up my alley. I spent 15 mins here rummaging for art supplies. I bought a box of crayons, colored paper, art paper, pencil sharpener and a bundle of brown envelope for only P193.75
Sulit Buys
For the bag I went to a store that sells bags for a fixed price of P200, I tried to haggle for a lower deal but the seller was firm with the price range. I had to rummage through the pile because they usually unbox different designs every hour and there were a lot of people at this store .
I finally settled for a cute mini bag that has a deer galaxy design on the cover. This was my sulit buy as it was trendy, waterproof, plus it is expandable.
Just across this shop is a mini arcade where you can let your kids play as they have an automated animal type of car.
There was also a shop that sells superhero costumes and figurines. This shop is ideal for those who is into cosplay and want to have their creative shot to standout at their graduation pictorial.
OOTD Essentials
For my OOTD essentials, I went to the second floor as my friend Chel from http://www.heyitschel.com suggested that clothes are cheaper on one store called Rufina. The second floor was filled with stores that sells, wedding gowns to debutant gowns.
Rufina was at the far end corner and when I entered the store, I was overwhelmed by the great selection of clothes. I got a millennial pink blazer for P55 that can turn your outfit from corporate campus chic to casual wear with a flare.
I also got a simple lace dress for P55 that is ideal to wear on a hot day at the campus and it can be paired with the millennial pink blazer for an added accent.
There is another Rufina store at the ground floor and that is where I got my chiffon yellow/ white long sleeves with black cuffs and beaded collar for only P85. This particular type of shirt is best paired with pants or a long skirt . A very versatile type of clothing for everyday wear
watch, suncreen, eye glasses and owl skirt not included in the haul
Rainy Day Essentials
I went to a store called Orignamura that sells my rainy day essentials which was a Barbie poncho type of raincoat for only P165 and a mini manual Hello Kitty fan that costs P40 for humid days and for a daily commuter like me this is very useful because Philippine weather is unpredictable.
I still have change to spare so I roamed around again and found this perfect leatherette type of white shoes for only P180. This type of sneakers is perfect even for rainy days as it is easy to clean and waterproof except for the shoelace but I have tried wearing it around campus on a rain day and it was comfortable. The sneakers can be worn with jeans or a dress.
Total cost of my shopping was P 973.75 and I still got a change of P26.25, I could have gotten 2 pens with the change but the line at National Bookstore was overwhelming, so I opted to turn it over instead. Overall my haul was affordable and perfect for an on the budget student.
Tutuban Center is a must try destination for millennials who are budget-conscious yet want to discover great finds. Tutuban has a modern vibe and is up to date with their products and services. What is your Tutuban Center shopping experience?

Both of these promos were made to give thanks to all Ka-Salu/s who have dined and craved for the best of Salu plates this past year. “Masarap at nakakataba ng puso ang aming unang taon. So we thought, why not give thanks and extend to our customers those blessings that we earned because of their trust through these simple promos. These two dishes, BLK and Brazo De Kalabasa, are our top moving dish and desert on our first year. So its fitting to grant a ‘one’ of a kind treat with buy ‘one’ take ‘one’ and a ‘one’ peso dessert, as we turn ‘one”, shared by Mr. Sarmenta.

We have built this brand to be the culinary authority when it comes to all things Filipino. And being chosen to participate in such convention was an affirmation that indeed, we somehow are in the right path of meeting our mission. Hopefully on our second year, we can serve more authentic plates and continue to be a portal for all guests to discover all the flavors of this country, especially those that are still undiscovered”, says Mrs. Harlene Bautista.
On its second year, Salu also unveils their campaign #SarapMabuhay. Life brings unexpected circumstances, it might happen to you or to your loved ones . But that is what makes life worth living to prepare for the uncertainty of the future. In celebration of their 4th Financial Independence this June, they have released digital short films that will make us dream, believe and strengthen our bonds with our loved ones. Sun life’s goal is to inspire Filipinos to be financially independent. Through these short films we are able to see the value of securing our loved one’s future.
Waves by Zig Maragsigan tackles what goes on the mind of the millennials; YOLO, or You ony live once, as they say. This generation has often been tagged as living by the moment and not having a clear path towards securing a future. The beginning of the film made me smile as there were “kilig” moments and it also has a bitter sweet ending. We often are not prepared for accidents so if you have a significant other, Sun Life allows them to be your beneficiary, all you need to provide is a proof of CENOMAR or Certificate of no marriage
“She said, She said” is something most people can relate to. In a modern society like ours and with the current economic situation, everybody can relate to the hardships a single mom endures. I held back my tears as I watch it. It pertains to the point of view not only by the mother but also of the daughter.
The other short film featured is Sayaw. Time is the truest test of love as this flick has showed. In a relationship, there are ups and downs. You will fall in love and might fall out of love as well. It pays to be ready for the rainy days.
It was quite a special day as four of the biggest names in showbiz represents Sun Life as ambassadors. Each one rooted for their personal choice among the Sun shorts. Piolo Pascual preferred Sayaw, Judy Ann Santos thought She Said, She said as the best, while Matteo Guidicelli selected Waves. It wouldn’t be complete without Ms. Charo Santos-Concio’s inspirational message. Just like her role in her television program, she was inspirational. According to her, life is beautiful. It is a journey that we spend along with our love ones and as much as we want to, we can never be sure of what the future brings but we can prepare for it.
Aside from the digital short films, Filipinos are in for a treat as Sun life holds a series of activities for the Millenials, moms and dads, and shoppers. Mutual funds and insurance literacy are to be provided.
This June, Sun Life has thought of helping the Millenials fulfill their need to accomplish their wandering goals. Moms and Dads are not left behind, they will get their deserved relaxation which will help clear their minds and eventually get them at their peak so they can think of their goals. Meanwhile, if you have no time for school, Sun Life courses are up for grabs at www.brighterlife.com.ph. Finally, members of Takatack.com can benefit from the partnership of Sun Life and Voyager innovations.

We are a nation of food lovers. Nowadays, trying out something new means visiting the nearby foodpark. It might also entail taking a trip far from our vicinity to satisfy our palates. Just like explorers of the olden days, we would roam anywhere to look for new dishes & food ideas. Foodtrucks are spreading like wildfire and each establishment apparently has to have a theme to catch customers’ attention. What about fun as it’s theme? Not a bad idea! Food Alley in Marikina is where kids will have fun in the playground and adults will have a good time picking out from the great selection of food.
Ambiance
You can’t miss this place because of its colorful gate and built-in playground for the kids. This food park also has two stages for live band performance every weekend. Christmas lights adorned and has been scattered creatively around the upper deck giving it a romantic vibe.
Food
Genghis Mongolian
This stall let’s you take charge on how to create your own version of Mongolian noodles. For this food tasting event we were served the sweet and spicy selection. Both bowl has a generous amount of crunchy vegetables, chunks of chicken, chewy noodles. The only difference of the two bowls is the other one has a kick of spiciness blended well with the sweet peanut sauce.
Pizza Station
For a pizza lover like me, Pizza Station satisfied my craving with their freshly baked, flavorful and non greasy pizza. I personally liked the Overload as the cheese was not overpowering the other toppings. The Pepperoni was cooked perfectly and also has ample amount of toppings.
Dampa Simply Lang Illongo’s Grill:
Baked mussels are delectable as the melted cheese seeped deeper into the meat giving its cheesy texture with a hint of garlic . The buttered shrimp is juicy, sweet, fresh and flavorful. Their sisig is loaded with onions ,well seasoned pork and blended well with the tanginess of the lime. The consistency of the pork is chewy and crunchy with just the right level of spiciness. These dishes above can be overwhelming on the palate so to balance it out a serving of manggang hilaw and bagoong is a must.
Nippon Ichi Takoyaki
This stall’s Takoyaki is perfectly crisp brown on the outside with crunchy slices of cabbage but I do hope they increase the amount of octopus meat to make it more flavorful. Drizzled with sweet or spicy sauce. They have an ongoing promo along with Juice Colored , when you buy 3 orders of Takoyaki, you get 1 glass of juice for free.
Tap Out
Their burgers are made up of caramelized onions. crunchy lettuce, fresh tomatoes and succulent beef patties that are well cooked. The patty to cheese ratio is well balanced. I must admit that I have tried their burger before the event itself and I love how each of the burgers is oozing with melted cheese that makes you want to devour every last morsel. You can choose your side dish between Quesadilla or Potato chips.
Core Freeze
The Nitrogen ice cream is one treat that will surely amuse and intrigue the customers. It has a smoky and chocolatey flavor. Scrumptious selection of ice cream and toppings are also served in this stall.
Juice Colored
Water is such a boring way to cool down. Quench your thirst with these colorful and oddly satisfying mixtures from Juice Colored. As the name suggests, they come in different hues with unique tastes to boot. The red iced tea has a hint of strawberry and is a bit too sweet. Blue lemonade has a mixture of sweetness and sourness but the latter is more powerful.
\di’zert\
The shop itself is aesthetically pleasing with its free board games and a cute table set up inside the shop for the kids. Scramble came along way to being a sidewalk treat. This concoction is creamy and has just the right amount of sweetness.
The Mango and Blueberry ice cream shake comes with an edible chocolate spoon. Both shakes do not overpower the taste of the actual fruit. The crepe is soft and creamy and the taste of banana stood out. Unicorn waffle taste of a mix of strawberries and a perfectly made waffle.
Growing up, one of my favorite afternoon snacks is suman. Suman is a sweet sticky rice cake that is steamed with coconut milk while wrapped by a banana leaf. This Filipino delicacy is best enjoyed through dipping it in sugar or drizzling it with latik. I often find myself craving for one but nowadays there are only a few street vendors who sell this. Good thing, Senyor Juan’s Suman Latik catered to my cravings.
I went to their SM Mall of Asia Branch as this was the nearest branch to my house. I was greeted with the stalls upbeat music, colorful logo and the sweet aroma of fresh steamed suman. The staff smiled and greeted me as they introduce one by one the best-selling flavors.
ESPESYAL UBE MACAPUNO SUMAN LATIK-P69
This was the first suman that I tasted that has ube macapuno on top. There was a large amount of ube that was served with this suman. This is a melt in your mouth treat, the blend of ube macapuno with the suman latik made me crave for more. Mixing two of my favorite delicacies made me one happy girl. I actually finished this in one sitting and that is how good it was.
ESPESYAL MANGGA SUMAN LATIK-P69
Manga or mangoes is one of my go to fruits during the summer season. Senyor Juan did not disappoint as when I took one bite of this suman latik with generous amount of sweet mangoes on top and sprinkled with peanuts, I felt so refreshed. It was a very hot day when I did this food review, so my palate was craving for something light and sweet.
ESPESYAL LECHE FLAN SUMAN LATIK-P69
I always eat Leche flan with Halo halo or as it is as a dessert. When this Suman latik topped with Leche flan and sprinkled with peanuts was served, I was delighted and curious at the same time. I never knew that Leche flan could taste good with suman latik as both of them are already sweet. The flan did not overpower the taste of the latik, it actually enhanced it and delivered another scrumptious surprise.
FRIED CHOCOLATE SUMAN LATIK-P75
I usually eat my Suman latik steamed so when I was given this particular fried version, I was bit surprised. It was my first time tasting a fried suman latik that was sprinkled with chocolates. This is ideal for introducing Suman latik to kids. It was colorful, tasty , sweet, and let’s not forget it was sprinkled with a generous amount of chocolate.
FRIED CHEESE SUMAN LATIK-P75
Another fried version of suman latik but this time it is sprinkled with cheese. The cheese added a salty and sweet taste. It can get a bit too salty for my taste after I took a few bites.
DRINKS
Mangosteen Dalandan Honey Juice P45
I haven’t tried mixing mangosteen and honey before so I was quite excited to try this one as it was mixed with dalandan. This was like a breath of fresh air for me. It was tasty, refreshing on a hot day and perfectly paired with any of the above mentioned suman latik. I would definitely purchase this one again.
Dalandan Honey Juice P35
If you are looking for a sweet and refreshing drink, I do recommend this honey and dalandan combination
Gourmet Coffee Barako P35 and Homemade Hot Choco Tablea P99
Since the weather in the Philippines is unpredictable, this hot treat is the best way to go during the rainy day season. I would love to try this out on my next visit so I can put a proper description on how good it is when paired with suman latik.
PACKS OF 6 AND 12 TAKEOUT
Senyora which was the 6 pieces, cost P199 and Senyor which was the 12 pieces take out cost P399. Each box includes the latik and the budbud, and this can be shared with your friends and family.
Overall Experience
Senyor Juan’s Suman Latik is highly recommended as they added a unique touch in serving their suman latik. This innovative sweet treat also has a lot of health benefits. My entire family loved their classic suman latik as well. I would definitely repurchase their ube macapuno, manga and Leche flan flavor.
