MILO Launches New Sports Programs for Schools and Barangays Nationwide

Reinforcing sports in a child’s holistic development with MILO Champ Camp

For many years, MILO has had a longstanding commitment to support educational programs by providing students access to sports and encouraging them to lead active and healthy lifestyles. The MILO Champ Camp is a nationwide school tour that aims to spark the interest of students for sports and promote the importance of the values learned through it.

In partnership with the Department of Education (DepEd), the MILO Champ Camp will tap skilled youth coaches to teach elementary students the basics of basketball, volleyball, and football, while offering parents insightful talks on the value of getting their children into sports and the importance of giving proper nutrition and energy to start their day. This year, the MILO Champ Camp will roll out in 300 public schools in key cities around the country, estimating participation of 500,000 students and 30,000 parents.

Bringing sports closer to grassroots communities with Barangay MILO Liga

The Barangay MILO Liga seeks to elevate the yearly community-based tournaments during the summer break through the rehabilitation of facilities and sharing of MILO’s sports advocacy to residents of barangays across the country. By refurbishing basketball courts and mounting events that will unite the community and encourage children to participate in dynamic gameplay, Barangay MILO Liga will help Filipino youth become more active, and inspire residents to become more engaged in their communities.

The Barangay MILO Liga program, which spans 100 barangays in as north as Baguio and as south as General Santos City for its maiden year, also aims to modernize the community’s sports facilities, transforming them into MILO Courts of Values. Improvements to be made include repainting or restoration of basketball courts and supplying brand new sports equipment.

“All these efforts are being made so that the barangay’s young residents, and even children from surrounding communities and nearby schools will have access to well-conditioned sports venues and become inspired to go out and play. We want to encourage kids in the barangays to become more active through sports, and not be too consumed with their gadgets,” said Lester P. Castillo, MILO Sports Executive. “We envision Barangay MILO Liga to be a training ground for young athletes to pick up at least one sport, develop their skills, and hone their character as future champions. We are very thankful to the barangays who have partnered with us to rally behind this advocacy.”

The Barangay MILO Liga began mid-March and is set to culminate in their respective barangay tournament finals some time late April to May.

Filipino-owned Philippine Bottling Beverage Launches Banahaw Spring Purified Water

Filipino-owned company Philippine Bottling Beverage (PBB), a new player in the purified water and non-carbonated drinks industry, has launched Banahaw Spring Purified Water at a well-attended media event on April 16 at the Manila House Private Club in Bonifacio Global City, Taguig City.

According to Thor Jourdan Mutuc, Business Development Manager at PBB, the company brought one of the latest European technologies to ensure that the production process upholds international standards and quality. “Our production facility located at the foot of Mount Banahaw in San Pablo, Laguna is at par with world standards, fully automated and requires minimal human intervention preserving only the essential natural qualities of the water from the mountain,” said Mutuc.

Revealing that it took three years of research and testing before Banahaw Spring Purified Water has been finally released to the local market, Mutuc further emphasized the intricate process of producing the country’s first purified water to have been named after its source.

Amidst changing industry trends, emergent technologies, and the rise of the millennial generation as a major player, marketers in the healthcare industries need an innovation mindset to stay relevant to consumers. At the 2018 VITAL Healthcare Marketing Conference, held on March 20, 2018 at the Fairmont Hotel in Makati, speakers from pertinent industries helped equip healthcare marketers with this mindset, enabling them to adapt to these new challenges and opportunities.

Maria Garrido

As Global Chief Insights and Analytics Officer of Havas Group, Maria Garrido heads a team of over 200 people, spanning 40 countries, and is responsible for the company’s Insights studies, including the Meaningful Brands study which was the subject of her talk. She is also the Chief Executive Officer of Havas X, Havas Group’s innovation arm, which takes advantage of the innovation expertise within the Group to explore new technologies and methods, and provide more meaningful services to clients.

This experience and her role in Havas make her a leading force of innovation in the advertising industry, and the perfect representative to discuss Meaningful Brands and how the framework applies to the healthcare industry.

Vicky L. Ortega

With over 20 years of experience in brand planning and strategy in the Philippines, Vicky Ortega is certainly a force to be reckoned with. Highlights of her career include setting up the Strategic Planning Group for Lintas (now MullenLowe Lintas), thereby creating one of the most respected planning groups in the advertising industry. Through her leadership, the Surf brand was able to overtake Tide, who had held market leadership for 20 years, in just a year. Ortega is also CEO of BrandLab, which makes use of brand anthropology and strategic planning to help build brand stories for clients, and which was instrumental in the success of brands such as DMCI Homes and The Filipino Channel.

Now serving as Planning Consultant at Havas Anthropology, Ortega’s focus is on combining brand planning and anthropological research to develop new insights in marketing. Her latest project, the Asian Millennial Codes, is the culmination of two years of study, and was the topic of her VITAL talk. The combination of her expertise in brand planning and unique anthropological perspective gives credence to these Millennial Codes as a framework through which healthcare marketers could adapt to the new generation.

Rachel McLoughlin

Rachel McLoughlin has eight years of experience in digital marketing, spread out across a diverse array of fields working from both client and agency sides, including retail, banking, and new media, as well as two and a half years in the healthcare sector. Her work in the latter includes Janssen Healthcare Innovation’s Care4Today program, which aimed to provide solutions for the timely, customizable delivery of quality Heart Health, Mental Health, and Orthopaedic healthcare solutions to consumers, whenever and wherever they need it.

With her past expertise, as well as her current role as Digital Director of H4B Manchester, McLoughlin carries the experience needed to provide solutions for the healthcare industry to adapt to the rise of Millennial Healthcare Professionals (mHCPs), who are at the forefront of the industry’s transformation through new technologies, new research, and new ways of funding.

As L’Oréal pushes for a culture that trains individuals to be inclined and empowered in shaping the future of beauty, they continue to host events like Brandstorm, a global innovation competition exclusively for students and one of the largest beauty competitions in the world. It has been a platform for talented students in bringing out their skills, and the Philippines has held this competition since 2009.

Brandstorm 2018 surpassed last year’s 1,500 sign-ups with more than 3,570 players from over 30 universities all over the Philippines. That makes the country the holder of the second biggest Brandstorm in the world.

L’Oréal Brandstorm 2018 National Champions, Team C^3 from the University of the Philippines Diliman, goes to Paris to represent the Philippines in the Worldwide Finals. Their winning idea called “Reign” centered around an innovation that allows a more personalized in-salon and aftercare experience. From more than 1,100 teams, only 24 were able to advance to the semi-finals last March 1. Top 8 teams were selected from them to battle it out in the National Finals held in Marco Polo Hotel in Ortigas last April 12. Out of the 8 finalists, Team C^3 from UP Diliman successfully took home the championship with a ticket to Paris to represent the country in the L’Oréal international Finals as they compete with other brandstormer all over the world.
